You have to use VHT wrinkle finish paint, they make a red that's close to OEM. There is no code from the dealer, Honda doesn't repaint valve covers, they'll just install a new cover if the old one is damaged.
There's a pretty steep learning curve in applying wrinkle finish paint, the key is to heat the object you are painting evenly and keep it warm while painting, there are plenty of write ups on this on HT, I'm sure you could find it.

Good luck finding vht , at least around here but I would assume its nation wide. They have a huge problem with there nozzle/can getting clogged. I know all the stores discontinued caring them.

Well unless the can design changed, the problem is still going to happen.

Just a thought, but since it's aluminum you can always have it anodized and get whatever finish you want.

The only problem is, if you buy some and let it sit, the can becomes clogged inside and basically you have a solid can of vht wrinkle paint.

Re: (Bryson)
yeah, powder coating are good. Did at least 15 covers using powder coat. For my engines previous and for friends. Have good partnership with on local powder coating shops. Only problem, they won't get for me that Honda OEM red/mat paint. Only for me it's not reasonable to order some 200 kg of powder.
Have question! Before coat lay cover must sand blasted. The sand can get in any smalest gaps. And it's become dangerous for engine. There are plate in inner side of cover for gas recirculation. How did you guys cover against sand.
Very nice covers in pics!

If you place the can in room temp area the paint inside shouldn't chunk up. also your suppose to turn the can upside down and spary till it sprays clear stuff to ensure the nozzle doesn't get clogged.

Re: (GrnTurtle)
I've read that if you use 2 different types of paint in layers it will wrinkle due to the un-even drying. Like spray on an enamel paint, wait 5 min then cover with an acrylic paint. I haven't had time to try it, so I don't know how well it works or if it even works at all, but if it does it means you aren't limited to the 2 or 3 wrinkle colors available.
Also, if you mix silicon with the paint it will give it a textured look. It isn't a wrinkle, but someone might like how it looks. I haven't done it to a valve cover.
**Edit**
The 2 different types of paint, you need to put the faster drying paint on the top.

Nice job on the caliper conversion. Ive been thinking of doing the exact same thing. Any info on the swap?
Sorry to hijack.
Edit: I searched and found your thread about it but i'd like to hear your impressions now that they've been on for a while.

All the cans were never used, I bought them straight from the store and they already had problems. I tried two different stores, same result.
I also remember I bought about 8 red cans and they were all black inside.
