Hey great modeling. I was wondering if there is any way I could get the model of the front clip of the civic - i.e. the engine/tranaxle with drive shafts, suspension and their mounting points. I'm wanting to make a little 'kit car' using this power train.
I make carbon fiber aircraft molds for a living - have access to 5 axis CNC machines so I wanted to make a ultra lite mid-engined run about that would kill the likes of lambo's and ferrari and still get half decent mileage.

VERY LATE TO THIS PARTY!! Are these drawings available to download somewhere. Can they be purchased? need to build a complete frame for racing my Mini so the location of the engine and suspension are critical to me. These drawings will solve my design problem without having to 3D scan the Mini and a B18!

This is all so impressive to be seen done in Solidworks. Is there somewhere you post your cad files? I haven't seen anything in this thread about files (besides people asking for them haha)

You can buy 3D scans of complete engines for $80-400 depending on complexity. These are CAD models and not scans but im assuming the prices could be in the same range if sold as components
Cylinder head $100, intake manifold $300 etc.

Are these models that are available accurate to the real world and can be used to dimension parts that will interface with the real part?
Or are they CAD models that have no real dimensions and are artistic interpretations of real parts?
I can make accurate meshes of real world parts for use in design and fabrication. The more detailed the more time and money. For example a quick scan of an engine might mean leaving all the accessories on meaning details under those accessories are lost. Removing everything down to the bare block requires extra time for dismantling in the real world and then assembling all the components back together in the CAD world. Both ways have applications.

Look at this site. Very good quality scans for a bargain. Some of these even have multiple components. So you can look at just an intake manifold or just the exhaust etc.
Please email them and ask for B and K series scans.

Looks like I had a minute tonight to scan a mostly virgin d16z6 block that I had clean and loose. I might have practiced rod clearancing the bottom of the cylinders on this one.
