Ok guys (james cough cough ha) last night i went to pic up this wavetrac lsd off a guy 400$, he had paperwork from the purchase, the warrenty card thing, shop installation recepits ect. but says "it comes with the LS 4.266 final drive". That sounds like a long FD?? I thought LS FD was 4.40? then he said i can only use this wavetrac with a hydro tranny or else i would need to change my mainshaft to use it in a cable trans?? (idk dosent sound right)
Is he just talking about the 90 91 splines in some cable trans?

Ok so...

What tranny can i use this LSD on (still havent purchased tranny, but do have an old LS?)

Can i change the FD with a used b16/GsR one?

And how can you tell if it is in good shape? i dont see any scoring/heat marks,teeth look good, and bearing spins good with little drag.

Hydro LS has the 4.26 final drive ratio. The bolt pattern is the same as the b16 ring gear but is smaller than the GSR/Type R.

What vehicle do you have?? If you have a 92 Teg like your name states..you should have a YS-1 Transmission. If so that LSD will bolt right in with your existing trans. If you have the YS-1 you also have the option of changing to a 4.40 final drive if you havent done so, or any other aftermarket LSD like a 4.7 or 4.9 for the B16 differential.

If you have a Y-1, A-1, J-1 or S-1 trans then you are limited to the stock final drive that came with your trans since they are different from 92-up B-Series transmisions. =(

S-1 and A-1 LS have the 4.40 Final Drive
YS-1 LS model has the 4.26 Final Drive
YS-1 GSR(rare) and JDM Xsi have the 4.40 Final Drive
Y80/S80 LS have the 4.26 Final Drive

Thank you very much sir, and yes i have a ys1 trans. Looks like im going to get the 4.4 FD, LSD, new synchro's and call it a day

You think you can PM me labor on something like this, Im the guy that was in the 951 that wanted that "inspection" with the cusco lsd trans.
