Default Windshield Wipers Won't Go Off???

Hi all,

Just purchased a 99 civic coupe.....windshield wipers will not go off after car turns on. Has anyone ever had this problem, is it the motor or motor relay??? Please help, very annoying.

Motor assembly most likely, although it could be the switch or the ICU, it could be the "park" circuit is not working properly, keeping motor running even after switch is turned off, the ground to the motor should be cut once blades reach the end of their stroke, [park position]

Start by unplugging the switch at steering column harness, to eliminate it as the problem. 94

Thank you for the quick response.......ICU???? Ignition Control Unit? Forgive the ignorance. How would one go about eliminating possiblities? Test the switch?? Test the motor assembly?? I was thinking to just purchase a new motor assembly and go from there, however id rather not just replace parts for the sake of it...you know? For the time being I have removed the fuse for the wipers so they stay off. What would be the first thing you would do in this situation. Thanks again.

RESOLUTION: I figured id update this question with the resolution for searching purposes.....the problem was in fact the wiper motor assembly. As fcm stated there is a switch inside the motor that sends a signal for it to "park" the wipers when the switch is turned to the off position. This switch was bad resulting in the wipers staying on....forever. Changed the motor, problem solved. Unfortuntatly this part can't be purchased seperately and the whole motor had to be replaced.
