Default Need advise: oil pressure vs. water temp gauge!

I recently acquired an HKS oil pressure and a oil temp gauge. The oil temp gauge can also be used as a water temp. gauge and it seems alot easier to install that way. To install the oil temp I would have to drill and tap my oil pan and that seems like a hassle. My question is are the benefits of having an oil temp gauge over a water temp gauge really that much? any other ways of installing the oil temp gauge properly without drilling the pan? I plan on installing these gauges on my ITR street/track car TIA-Gil

Gil you are going to install the oil pressure sender the correct way right? Stainless steel line from the original sender port and put a tee fitting on the other end of the stainless line and zip tie to the hard lines on the fire wall. Just tap in there for the oil temp.

can I get a proper oil temp reading from the back of the block? the manuel says to tap the oil pan for the oil temp and just remove the OEM oil pressure dummy light use a T and tap my Oil pressure to that.

Too be honest I don't think it will make much of a difference, is this a race motor or street car?

I just spoke to a road race guy and he said its ok to get the oil temp from a sandwich adaptor... Did you think to remove the allen plug on the back of the oil pump? Z10 makes a 1/8 npt adaptor that threads in there..

don't cut corners, If you don't do things the right way it's not worth doing them at all. You'll end up with a gauge that gives you false info. Put it in the pan were you will get a proper temp reading

Not sure how big the probe is on that thing, but if it helps I carry a dual outlet block fitting and a dual outlet firewall kit.
Essentially, you could have up to (3) 1/8npt ports if you needed.

This is a picture of the old single port block fitting on my ls/vtec line, but the two ports on the new fitting are opposite each other.

This is a picture of the firewall kit.

Using one port to connect the firewall kit, would leave you with two on the firewall, and one unused on the block fitting.

Like Jago said do it right and locate it in the oil pan. That is the standard that is widely used.Unless you use the car at sustained high rpm (like road racing) you will never have any issues with oil temp.If your bracket racing oil temp can effect your times a little too.But you need a real consistent car to tell.

is it just me or would water tem not be a better use for that gauge...i mean on the street hes more likely to overheat then to have high oil temps...
