Re: Coil, Ignitor Test? What readings to expect? (Blaze45)
Word to the wise...
Whatever values listed in the books, they are pointless. I was getting NO spark and tested my coil and ignitor, showed coil was good and ignitor bad. Dropped $90 on new ignitor. No dice. Bought new neat-o MSD coil and it worked like a charm. A honda master-tech I talked to informed me that the only sure way to test an ignitor (ICM) is with a special machine...he tested my ignitor that showed up as bad, and it was good. Save yourself the cash and trouble and bring the piece to a honda shop unless you have a good one to swap.

Re: Coil, Ignitor Test? What readings to expect? (ion_four)
you can test the ignitor and the coil in five minutes with a dwell meter. most good DVOMs have one. Forst you check the black yellow wire for voltage, if its battery voltage you test teh wire next to it (the one between the blackyellow and the wire on the side) for dwell. The engine has to be cranked for this test. while watching the dwell crank teh car for 10 -20 seconds. If you get dwell you have a bad coil, If you dont get dwell move to the wire on the other side of the black yellow and test it for dwell. If you get dwell there you have a bad ignitor, if not you have an issue between teh ECU and the ignitor and will usually have a code 15 present. hope this helps. I use this test at least 2 or 3 times a week and its flawless every time.
