Default Questions about alignment, tire wear, toe and other things

Hm, where to start.
I've been reading alot about how the toe effects the tire wear, and how camber kits aren't really necessary.
Last summer I lowered my car alot, put some wide wheels on it with a decent camber. I knew about how that ***** up my tires, but it was faster than I had hoped for. After about 5 months of use, my front tires were completely worn, the threads could be seen. I didn't get an alignment - I thought that was unnecessary because my tires had negative camber and that is what I wanted(had no clue about the real killer, the toe.) My rear tires were like new though.

yeah, it's too much.

I sold the wheels, put on the old wheels and now I need an alignment. I also have some cheap *** ebay camber kits that the bushings have gone loose already. I read the sticky thread about how camber kits aren't necessary and they are likely to slip out of adjustment, causing tire wear.
Should I buy some 200$ camber kits or should I just put the old ones back on?
I'm not planing on putting so much camber on my next wheels, a little maybe, but not much. So, should I buy some decent front camber kits because i'm going to need to put a little camber on my future wheels?
A stupid question maybe, but is it a problem taking the car to an alignment shop with camber kits? Don't they have to change them manually?
Also, when going to an alignment shop with negative camber that I want to keep - should I just ask them to fix the toe?
thanks in advance.

Pay up now and avoid paying triple later.

besides not having an alignment, you have excessive camber. you do not have the normal 2ish inch drop with results in 2-3 degrees of negative camber.

alignment is never "unnecessary"

youll have fun trying to get a lowered car on the rack most of them will say they wont do it and not just any alignment specialist can adjust your camber. check your wheel bearings this could cause excessive wheel wear, i got my car aligned with caster adjusters and camber adjuster and left worse then i came in

I know i had excessive camber - but i'm not planing on doing that again. I don't think this is a normal 2ish inch drop, without that camber I wouldn't be able to fit the wheels. That's why i'm planing on getting some rpf1's with et38 instead of et20, or just some 15x7 et35 - I don't want that excessive camber.
Now I know that an alignment isn't unnecessary, I just thought that the only reason to get an alignment was to put the camber in factory settings - I had no clue about the toe thing.

I still have some unanswered questions that I really need some answers to.

toe kills tires. camber does have an effect but not as much. but buying better fitting wheels will help. having said that im running about -3 degrees camber on the rear of my car and no adverse effects, because my toe is good.

1. Should I buy some 200$ camber kits or should I just put the old ones back on?
-No, you should just put the old ones back on if I'm assuming you mean the OEM ones.

2. So, should I buy some decent front camber kits because i'm going to need to put a little camber on my future wheels?
- Why? No need if daily driven IMO.

3. A stupid question maybe, but is it a problem taking the car to an alignment shop with camber kits? Don't they have to change them manually?
- Don't get camber kits. Check for your bushing wears instead; it may haunt you later on if you don't.

4. Also, when going to an alignment shop with negative camber that I want to keep - should I just ask them to fix the toe?
- Yes, fix the toe.

Throw some OEM control arms back in it and get it aligned. It you notice you have a bit "too" much camber in the rear throw some washers on the bolts.

i've been running -2* all around on my 98 for probably 2 years by now. Tire wear is perfect.

Shops will say get a camber kit, you reply with "just set the toe". If they say they can't do it without a camber kit find a new shop.
