the head off a gsr is going to cost you around $600. Don't use the b16 head. It will cost you more to properly build a ls/vtec then to swap in a gsr, so if you don't have the money to do it right buy a stock gsr swap.

geez you guys, some of you dunno poo poo. first of all a whole b16 can be had from nippon motors for 486 after tax. then you save up another 200-300 and go get your block. use the b16 pistions and you will have a nice little setup. you will of course have to budget yourself for additional costs (there always are) so i would say try to get together about a grand or so and then try. and to the guy who said to use a gsr head, why? whats that damn difference? the gsr MIGHT flow a little better but is it worth DOUBLE the cost of a b16 head esp to a person who is obviously on a tight budget and who would probably never even kow the difference anyway? besides that dual intake runner mani on the gsr SUCKS ***. oh, and i ALMOST forgot, if he does get a gsr head, he will have the ADDED expense of converting obd1/2 to pgmfi. a new dist and ijectors would be at least another 300.

Re: i want to build a ls/vtec......... (RexB16)
Im thinking the main point here that every one was trying to convey is that $600 is a little low to be wanting do accomplish an ls/vtec motor.
Kinda like saying.. i have $1000 and I need Turbo... (just not gonna happen)

The $600 he said is only for the head......
if he can get a complete b16 for $650- I would get that and then you can get the oil pump out of it too, and you could use the pistons if you wanted but I wouldn't

Figure even if you could get a B16 for $487(?), then you need these parts.
B18A/B block
Gaskets
Oil & Filter
GSR Head bolts
Piston rings
Rod Bearings
Oil feed line & fittings
Then you need to.....
-Hone the block for the B16 pistons, make sure you don't have to go oversized pistons.
-Have the B16 pistons pressed off the B16 rods (hope the machine shop doesn't break one, because then you'll need to go buy a new one) and then have them pressed on the LS rods.
-Install new rod bearings
-Install new rings and put block together.
-Close oil feed on head from original location
-Run -3 line to oil sender location
-Redrill Dowel pin location to opposite side.
Ok, I'm done. I think there is more, but does it look like a $600 job to you? If it were that cheap, don't you think everyone would do it?
Right.

Re: i want to build a ls/vtec......... (WAFFLES)
if you get the first gen motor swap for that cheap you would run the first gen manifold and throttle body on a second gen swap that would be a pain in the ???
like everyone else said your playing with yourself with that particular price tag
i have a first gen manifold and throttlebody, and first gen distributor converted to second gen spec, maybe a fuel rail, some injectors, and a bare b16a head ill sell ya for 600
let me know
and good luck

I made my coment on building it right if you're not going to built it right you should get the gsr swap it what was saying. You wouldn't use the grs intake manifold you would use the ITR manifold. To take adjantage of of the higher red line you will beed atleast new rods. Don't get all pissy about my comment and understand what i'm saying.

Re: i want to build a ls/vtec......... (rob1208lv)
so what do you want man? a first gen b16 head complete? second gen b16 head complete?
I know b18c1 powered si keeps ls/vtec prepped heads in stock and has excellent deals on them man. I dont think they come with distributors but you can get one rather cheap.
If you have an OBD1 car you will be spending much more getting a first gen b16 head and making it OBD1.
If you have any more questions, IM one of us. Let's not use too much bandwidth talking about this.
