***Time attack/Pike's Peak Hill Climb EH2***
Well boys, its been a very long time. I sold my last honda over 5 years ago, and never looked back... till now. I moved into the off-road scene, and through that I ended up the last 2 years at Pike's Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado Springs, pit-crewing for a very good friend of mine who, through his amazing off-road fabrication skills, built an amazing time-attack TE-72. My friend, Roy of ODRFab in Redlands, CA, is a 4 time veteran of the hill climb, and through this, my other buddy, who is a long time OG of hondas, Buck909, decided its time to build a honda to take up that god-forsaken mountain in 2013. So with further a do, i would like to say: I'm back bitches! this should be a pretty fast build, since we have a decent financial back bone. i will update this thread as quickly as the car get built. ENJOY.
Build Plans:
MOTOR: some kind of boosted K series
SUSPENSION: Some kind of coil overs
BRAKES/WHEELS: Some kind of huge brakes, and big wheels with big tires
CHASIS: Chromoly, tig welded F.I.A. certified 6 point cage
AERO: Big splitter, big defuser, big wing.
Here are some pictures of the start. The chassis is a 94 cx hatchback that was caged by ODRFab in 06' for a customer who never finished it, then purchased by Buck909 to do what needed to be done, FINISH IT.

Just wondering... what FIA spec cage are you putting in? In hopes this doesn't end like those Evo guys, you build the right cage from the start.
Materials to build a true FIA spec cage require "Cold drawn seamless unalloyed carbon steel containing a maximum of 0.3 % of carbon" quoted direct from the FIA safety appendix 253. 4130 does not fall in this at all.
Link to Appendix 253:

The cage design is very very good just need it thru to the front strut towers now and is almost perfect.

Re: ***Time attack/Pike's Peak Hill Climb EH2***
Cold Drawn Seamless (CDS) is a billet cylinder of steel that is heated up, then a bar is driven down the middle to create the seamless tube. The tube is then drawn over a mandrel (simlar to DOM) but it lacks the welded seam.
What is the size of your main hoop? FIA requires a 1.75 x 0.095 tube there at least. It's a bit of a document to read if you're truly building an FIA spec cage you really need to read it through.

You cage looks good put the diagnol to the floor in the main hoop
Have you ever sat in it it or put a seat in it? The harness bar might be too high depending how you sit.

What sanctioning body/bodies are you building this for? By the whole Evo guy who build a shitty time attack cage for hill climb/rally, you are on the right path building an FIA compliant cage.
But unless you actually want to go and enter an FIA event, you do not have to build up to their exact specs. For something like Pikes Peak, you can likely build up a cage with DOM and use the FIA as refence to bar sizes. Pikes peak has TERRIBLE cage requirements that are very lacking. Hell, they allow aluminum cages! I haven't read the rule book myself in detail, so you would need to read them.
But that's what I would suggest before you start building up an entire cage and then find out the sanctioning body you were looking to get it logbooked for won't accept it because you have overlooked design requirements.
That link does explain good and available steel. The issue is finding someone who gives it as CDS and not DOM tubing.
T45 is an alloy steel, but you can't build a cage to FIA spec using it. You need to get the cage homoligated. Which is a long process of getting it certified and approved to the chassis. The chassis itself needs to be homoligated, and if I remember right, homoligations expire after a certain time anyway.
Bottom line, don't build your cage out of T45 or 4130 as it will not be FIA legal without getting the cage itself homoligated and tested.

Re: ***Time attack/Pike's Peak Hill Climb EH2***
I imported a cage kit from Custom Cages in the UK. CDS tubing and true FIA spec for my wifes EH2 rally car.
Doesnt much help you since you are already working with a cage, but an option for others to keep in mind.

I had looked at those for my hatch. I just didn't like the design of the cages as they are built to an older FIA homoligation and you CANNOT add bars to an existing homoligated cage.
This is the link to their EK4 cage, but I didn't like the design at all. I wanted a sill bar, X in the main hoop, V or X in the roof, lower rear stays. The older homoligated cages are an option, but I honestly think they have very dated designs and aren't as safe as a cage built to the most modern specs.

Few new goodies. moving slow, but still moving along none the less. My good buddy, and project fabricator, Roy of ODRMotorsports & Engineering, has had to put the civic aside to finish the teams class 1400 truck and we are crunching to try and make it to Battle at Primm on the 22nd.
but here are the new goodies thus far. Car should be operational in the next few weeks.
Team Dynamics Pro race 1.2 15x7 +35mm
Toyo Proxes R888's in 225/50/15. They are tires we had laying around the shop for now
Ktuned CNC K series shifter
Let me know what you guys think.
