Yeah, it's not a Honda, but I figure someone might get a kick out of this...
You might remember this piece of crap from when I first bought it.
Well, I went ahead and installed a race built motor I found on ebay.
It's a rebuilt version of the stock engine. Mods include a Weber 32/36 downdraft carb, custom profile cam and custom header. Everything is ported, polished, blueprinted, etc. It was built back in the 80's by Team Highball, a Mazda sponsored racing team.
Right now it's running really bad, sometimes not at all (electrical problems) but when the gas is floored, it feels to have around 140 horsepower. Oddly torquey for a 1.5.
Here's a pic I took today while working on cleaning and tucking the bay.
And of course, late night open header action:

Re: (Mr.OB*GYN_Rhett)
Used to see those back in the Street races here in Cali. One of our friends had a Mazda 323 and swapped in a MAzda 626 turbo motor and converted the 323 to a Manual trans. This was in 1992 or so.
BAck then with a light car like the 323 with that stock turbo setup, it was beating most of the Hondas, etc at the street races.

Haven't seen one of those around here for probably 15 years at least, I remember a neighbor across the street had one parked out back when I was a kid. Pretty cool to see something like that with a nice swap from that era, would be nice to see it with some period-correct wheels from the 80's.
