The Death Of a S2K
Well, to make this short and to the point.
My Uncles owned a 2004 Honda S2000.
He began to smell something burning, like it was under the dash. He didn't waste anytime, the next day he took it to the Honda dealership. They told him nothing was electrically or mechanically wrong except that a plastic bag had caught on his exhaust and melted. Well, we bring it home and still smell the burning rubberish, wireish smell. Its beginning to worry me so I ask him to look at the wiring at the bottom of the console. Well, he decides he wants the dealership to look at it again, 2 days later he takes it back up to the Honda Dealer. They once again tell him nothing is wrong. Well, 2 days later, when my grandmother got up, looked outside and seen the S2000 sitting in the back yard in flames. Sadly, my uncle had to watch it burn, turns out aftering being inspected, it was a electrical fire based in the dash. It was rough, and Honda really done him wrong in turning him away without really checking out his car.
Just figured I'd let you guys know, I'll post pics later.

Re: The Death Of a S2K (Rajin)
I believe i've heard of Ford pickups doing this due to something being faulty, but never an S2000. Do you guys know what started it?

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that. But the first thing that comes to mind is not to claim it on your uncles insurance. Call an attorney and see if Honda Motor Co. or the dealership is directly responsible. Of course there are many factors involved, but as long as the story is straight foward, then it seems the liability falls on them. Send pics soon, and RIP S2K.

hense the reason you never use one dealership.. if you take it to one place and they swear nothing is wrong..but you know something is up.. take it to another dealership to get a second opinion....
second opinions at the same dealership is pointless...

did he have an aftermarket alarm or sound system? if he did i'm pretty sure honda will not accept any responsiblity because you altered the stock wiring harness...i hope everything works out for you.

Didn't alter anything. I asked to look at it, he wouldn't let me.

It's amazing to see how a few idiots mess it up for us good guys.
But sorry to hear about the S2K, I'm sure i would have shed a few tears.
It's hard to imagine anything in a stock S2K that would have enough current with the car off to start a fire. But it sucks either way
