Default T-Belt Jumped, How to Re-Align Camshafts?

Hi, My timing belt skipped a tooth and now the camshafts are mis-aligned (Arrows and marks do not line up). How do I align everything again?

as long as its not that far off you can. put the 1 piston at TDC and align away. the cams will say up and the arrows go parallel with the head

I don't know which camshaft rotated - Should I spin the intake or the exhaust and should it be counter clockwise?

what engine? If its an H23 there are some holes on the top of the #1 IN and EX cam caps. There are also holes in the H23 cams. Just stick a dowel in and it will align the cams to TDC.

P.S. Get a helms, that will help a lot.

H22s have line up holes on the cams as well.

Awesome, but where are the holes exactly? On the camshaft close to the timing belt side or over top the spark plug holes?

With the valve cover off, the holes should be right next to the cam gears, each in a cam cap.

If its an H22, the line up holes are on the top plate rocker girdle. Around #2 cam lobes, The holes in each girdle are offset, but if you look, the offset holes lineup with holes in the cams. BEFORE you take it apart. You need to lock down the auto-tensioner.This is done by backing out the 10mm pin sticking out of the timing cover until it stops.

OK I have never worked with the cynlinder head before. Do I have to remove any screws, holders or, bolts to access these holes? If so, what do I remove first assuming my timing belt and valve cover are off.

Ok on the top, there is a metal bracket and and 4 holes, 2 holes for each bracket/camshaft.

Yes, But only one hole for each cam. They are offset. If you look down each hole you will understand what holes to use. You will either see a cam lobe or the rough part of the camshaft. the line-up holes will be on the rough part. I use a couple of drill bits that are camfered at the end so they fit snugly into the plate holes and cam holes (the cam holes are slightly smaller in diameter)

They're under the valve cover. To align them, set the crank at TDC (dot on pulley lines up with arrow on timing cover) and the cams will be somewhere near up. It's pretty straight forward from there
