Default Prelude problems..

Alright well lately my car has been having this odd problem. It seems like every time I do a cold start and start driving with my engine being cold, it like.. sputters. Like I'll try and accelerate and it will start cutting out. I'll stomp it, it will lag and then all of a sudden the rpms will kick up from 3k to like 5.5k. It's almost like I have to take my car to redline in 1st just to get it to stay running. It's not on the verge of dying or anything.

What do you think the problem could be though? I just had a tune up with Irdium plugs and new wires, rotor, etc. back in May. Could it be a fuel problem?

It also was working just fine when I put my header on. Btw it's an F22 if that makes a diffrence.

in my service manual it says that rough cold starts are caused by one or more of the following:

1. drained battery
2. leaking fuel injectors
3. malfunctioning fuel system
4. carbon tracked distributor rotor

i am guessing it is probably something to do with your fuel system...

It can't be 1 or 4..

Sooo

2 or 3 it is.

Maybe I should reset my ECU? That may help.

Could it be my subwoofers?

I just got 2 Alpine Type R's and I've got them hooked on a 760w Amp. But it dosen't make sense to me because it only does this on cold starts.. But all this started happening when I wired the subs up.

I just unplugged my negative cable so I'll hook it back up in the morning and see if it does it.

I have EXACTLY the same problem. I doesn't happen all the time but when it does, it really annoying. I don't even lend it to my gf (or anyone else) because of it. I have read tons of posts about it, but haven't found a real solution. I dont want to change everything to try and fix it since I have almost no $$$ now. Mine doesn't sputter, it just lags for like 2-3 seconds then vroom it "catches" all of a sudden... I suspect that the timing is being changed temporarily and that is what is causing the lag, but I dont know why. If you fix the problem, please post your answer!

p.s. these are the posts most of the members try to stay away from...lol
and my lude is COMPLETELY stock, including sound system (5th gen)

Just when it's cold it seems.

Well I reset my ECU and it hasn't done it today. I didn't even take my car to redline and it seemed fine.

My ECU hadn't been reset and I recently added a Chikara header.. maybe that was the problem.
