Fourth Gen Rear Caliper stuck... what to do?
as title says, it has been touchy ever since I changed the pads about 9 months ago. No real issues since until now. I noticed that the rim had a lot of brake dust, and even more so after driving got out of the car and could smell, and tough the heat on the rim from the caliper being locked against rotor.
The question is what is the best way to get this un locked?
Should I just take it apart and turn the piston on the caliper as far back as I can and lube the hell out of it?
Do I need to get a new caliper?
Could I easily (bolt on setup) put my old S model rotors and calipers from the front on the back?
I got lifetime pads so I could give a **** about that, but I was curious about the line in the middle of the rotor that tells me that its rubbing... do I ABSOLUTELY need to resurface/replace the rotor?
TIA guys, I am in need of some help...

One thing to try is to remove the caliper, but leave it hooked to the brake line. See if the rubber boot around the piston is in good shape.
If it is, then it's the piston probably has some gunk/buildup/rust around its skirts. You can try removing the caliper, pullin out the piston, lightly sanding it to remove the buildup, oiling it lightly, and reinstalling it........but i've heard reinstalling the piston into the seal can be a royal PITA.
Mine stuck b/c of a torn seal and a rusted piston, so I just bought a cheap caliper from a local junkyard and swapped them out.

It is not worth your time trying to unstick that caliper it will be a big PITA. Just go get a rebuilt or used one. As far as the rotor I agree with chase.

when you changed the pads did you screw the pisotn back in?
when you change the rear brakes you have to screw the piston back in. the ebrake works off of a mechinism that makes the read piston screw outward everytime you use the ebrake to account for the wwear in the brakes
i bet that you didn't scrwe the piston back in and thats why the brake pad wore down. the caliper isn't stuck

On my 2000, my left rear caliper piston froze or seized(however how you want to call it).
I just brought a new one @ the dealership. It took me less than 2 hours for the installation and bleeding process.
Don't buy a used one, it's not worth it.

Yea, it was a huge pain, but I did screw the piston in plenty far.
...and don't foget to duct-tape around the banjo-bolt...we don't want leaks</TD></TR></TABLE>

that is what I meant to say...I obviously didn't proof read it at all.
As far as going to a junk yard... I seriously doubt the local junk yard has any preludes. I have check before and all they had was one that was totaled beyond recognision.

i had the exact same problem, got it fixed yesterday. the only way to fix a siezed caliper is to buy a new one man. sorry to say.
it was a shock to me as well since i totaly wasnt expectin it. rebuilt one ran about $250 cdn
