Odd CR-V distributor harness switch - Please help
Hi all...
1998 CR-V stuck on side of road dizzy died (part# TD97U) and could only find a used TD74U.
I did the search thing and found this thread, which unfortunatley doesn't help switch the wires from the TD74U 8 pin harness to my odd TD97U 9 pin harness.
Thanks

TD97U with the 10P connector looks to be the distributor for 97-98 CR-V.
TD74U with the 8P connector looks to be the distributor for 99-01 CR-V.
Wiring are in different pin location numbers and some wire colors are different too; but, they are similar wiring. Since pin 4 for the 97-98 distributor is not used, the other wiring difference is the lack of an engine speed output wire for the TD74U, since the engine speed output for the tach no longer comes from the ICM in the distributor.
97-98 Models: 10P gray connector
Pin 1 – Blu/Grn (CKP sensor input)
Pin 2 – Orn/Lt Blu (TDC sensor input)
Pin 3 – Orn (CYP sensor input)
Pin 4 – Not used
Pin 5 – Yel/Grn (ignition input signal ICM)
Pin 6 – Blu (Engine speed output) Used on 97 model; but not used for 98 model even though there is the blu wire)
Pin 7 – Blk/Yel (Ignition coil)
Pin 8 – Blu/Yel (CKP sensor ground)
Pin 9 – Wht/Lt Blu (TDC sensor ground)
Pin 10 – Wht (CYP sensor ground)
99-01 Models: 8P gray connector
Pin 1 – Yel/Grn (ignition input signal ICM)
Pin 2 – Lt Blu (CKP sensor input)
Pin 3 - Orn/Lt Blu (TDC sensor input)
Pin 4 - Orn (CYP sensor input)
Pin 5 – Blk/Yel (Ignition coil)
Pin 6 – Wht (CKP sensor ground)
Pin 7 - Wht/Lt Blu (TDC sensor ground)
Pin 8 – Gry (CYP sensor ground)

Re: Odd CR-V distributor harness switch - Please help
Hey thanks tech8,
I'm curious though, my eyeballs are red from searching and now from envy how the heck did you come up with this information so quick?
I just hope I don't screw this up, so basically I'll just be out of RPM info and can leave that 9th wire sealed off the harness?

You won't be out the rpm info. since your 98 doesn't use the engine speed output from the ICM either. Only the 97 used that wire, they sold the same distributor for the 97-98; but, the 98 didn't use that wire. The tachometer drive circuit receives pulses from the ECM/PCM for 98-01 CR-Vs.
I have access to some Honda info.

Since you'll probably be using the 10P connector, the important thing is to match the description of the wires I listed; for example, CKP sensor input to CKP sensor input, not just solely based on colors (as not all the colors are the same between the two distributors).

Soldering is best. Next would probably be using butt connectors and crimping. Twisting and sealing usually is not good enough for long term due to all the vibrations and motions that go on with a vehicle.
But, like most situations in life, do what you can or need to do now. Good luck.

why don't you thake the icm out of the new distributor and put it in the old one.Check first if they are the same .that and the high tension cord .i did this last night and it took me 30'.

Re: Odd CR-V distributor harness switch - Please help
what if you have a CRV 97 and you use a 99 distributor (TD74U ) without the blue wire (Engine speed output) then can it run without the blue wire being connected. in other words if i have 98 wires leading to 9? PLEEASE HELP
