VSS and VTEC engagement
I'm almost finished with a B18C (JDM) swap in my 2nd gen CRX SI. I have heard that VTEC won't engage if the VSS is not working. I have converted to OBD1 via the Rywire subharness with a P72 ECU.
The B18C came with the electronic VSS and my cluster is cable operated. I was thinking about swapping a GSR cluster, but I decided to keep the stock cluster. I am going to take out the electronic VSS from the B18C and put the mechanical VSS from my d16a6. If everything ends up working, will VTEC work? Also, are there any precautions I should take when swapping VSS's or is it simply remove and replace?
TIA

you might wana get a cable vss off a ls tranny. i think the d sereis one is a little bit shorter but it might work. and yes after you hook up your vss it will work. but if i were you i would just get a gsr cluster its not too hard to wire it up and it looks way better. and ya its remove and replace. youll see the d series one looks way different then a b series one.

yea i got my vss from an ls tranny which has the 2 tubes for power steering, just make sure you add some lube in those tubes and then top them off. ive heard the crx one works just fine if you cant find an LS one but the signal for v-tec is routed thru the ecu i believe, which is also wired to the speedometer so no speedometer, no v-tec. the gsr cluster never looked to flush in the ef cluster cover so orginal works just fine for me. plus, im afraid of anything that includes wiring.

you can keep the stock cluster. you just need an integra cable vss. it still sends a signal to the ecu even if its mechanical. if your thinking about upgrading the gsr intake manifold, i'd get a p28 chipped p28 instead.
