Re: snow (jayb98ek)
not only do they suck in snow but...last winter was the scariest winter of my life driving that car...i slid all over the place and granted i DIDNT have snow tires my car still drove shitty and that was before the b16...its gonna be even worse this year(knock on wood) i wasnt even supposed to be driving it this winter but it looks like i have no choice...if u buy one, i would highly recommend snow tires and other than that drive safe

I tried everything on that stupid ice when I ran into the curb the second time and I was only doing like 2 MPH...I guess it was just ment to be.

Re: snow (jayb98ek)
i drove my HF in the winter before i did the turbo and the b16 but it is not going to be the best but i would say about as good as a jbody or any other fwd car just start off in second and let the tires dig but if you put a set of bizzerks or how ever you spell that. then the car will really go in the snow...but keep the salt off the car because it will rust bad.

Re: snow (HondaMPower)
Did a full 180 degree spin across 3 lanes of highway after my friend wanted to know what would happenned if I flipped the ebrake @50. Scared the **** out of him. Definetely need to invest in some winter tires. Even scared me how fast the back end came out and flipped around, highway was empty btw

Re: snow (speed_racer012)
lol i never thought to look to see if he actually did **** or ****. I shoulda got it on camera though, hes supposed to be all hard and into speed but he screamed and held on when we got passed 45 degrees.
Its good to test the limits of your car so you know what you can do during shitty conditions, of course where you can harm know one else.
And its ******* fun as hell

I know your supposed to put sandbags in the bed of a pickup because most of them are RWD. But what would be the purpose in a FWD civic? Have sand so you can get traction if you get stuck i guess.

Re: snow (FourthGenHatch)
my opinion is they pretty much suck in the snow..i ended up on a 5ft snow bank last winter due to black ice...it took about 45 mins and 5 people to get me out....

No tears. Only dreams, now.
In Ohio we have studded snow tires. I'll tell you what, a B16 with those ******* mounted to the front wheels will rip through ice and snow like you wouldn't believe. I lived in about the most rural area you could imagine, and all through high school I never once was late during winter due to ice. I'm telling you, it's just how you drive. Granted I need a new e-brake cable every spring, but my civic is just as good as anything else. And I say the more power the better....

Re: snow (jayb98ek)
In my EF hatch, I barely drove it in the snow, when I did, it sucked. I got stuck coming out of a friend's driveway. Since that happened, everytime it snowed, I called a friend with his jeep to come get me. Glad I'm gonna be in VA Beach at school this winter.

Re: snow (Vinceg99)
yeah, snow and ice / winter driving is mostly a factor of ground clearance and tires.
Any decent sport tire sucks in the snow. There aren't usually any sipes in the tread(the small cuts/slits in the tread blocks).
For snow, traction comes from all the edges of the sipes grabbing the ground, and also the snow that gets stuck in the sipes sticks to the snow on the ground.
On ice, you mainly are getting traction from the edges of the sipes.
Siping also breaks water tension in wet and slushy conditions.
For getting stuck in the snow, its 95% of the time an issue of the snow being deeper than the underside of the car. Once the air dam, or the floorboards start plowing snow, you get stuck. Period. Thats why you always keep a little shovel with you.
Stock suspension, and get some good winter tires, it will be very good in the snow, just like any FWD car.
I spent 3 years working for Continental Teves / ITT Automotive designing ABS and Traction control systems, and have built 4wd's for years here in michigan, so I've got a bit 'o experience with this..

Trust me when I say get snow tires. I have a 99 Integra and it sucked in the snow without snow tires. Once I got real snow tires on there, it was like a whole new car!
