Ok, I finally got the alternator back from the shop with a brand new diode plate. While it was in the shop we had to move the car out of the garage it was in, so I got some more practice taking the wheel hub off the axle today. We did manage to get the alternator into the bracket, and put the front suspension back together, but now we've run into a new problem.

How to get the new alternator belt on. Obviously the A/C compressor belt has to come off, and it looks like there is a tiny nut hiding under the motor mount that would adjust what looks like an idler pulley up and down, but turning it left didn't seem to help, nor did turning it right until it got too tight to turn anymore. Of course my Chitlon's book doesn't offer anything worthwhile. I had an idea to actually remove the nut thats holding that top pulley on, the one on the bolt that goes THROUGH the 10mm adjuster nut we'd already been playing with, but it was late and we were tired so I thought I'd ask the experts before we broke something.

So guys, how do you properly loosen and remove the A/C pull on an 89 CRX Si so you can put your new alternator belt on?

That was my first suggestion as well, but I do live in Texas, and its been one hell of a hot summer, and I'd hate to give up my working Air Conditioning...

Come on guys, I know someone has the info I need...

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but there is 2 nuts that need to be lossened fr the AC belt adjustment, one is the one i believe you are talking about which is the acctually pulley adjust ment but the one in the center of the pulley also needs to be loosen to allow it to move, the adjuster just moves the pulley up or down and keeps it from slipping while the one in the center is the what holds it in place

I don't have AC but i believe thats how we did it on my friends teg...

If you have air tools. Throw (I think) a 19mm on the crank pulley and take it off, apply belts, put it back on. Will take you 10-15 minutes haha.

Just did it in my Civic, had to loosen the adjuster nut on top as well as the locknut on the pulley itself

Loosen the 14mm nut in the middle of the pulley first,
Then loosen the 10mm adjuster bolt...
That will move the pulley and create slack to remove the belt..

Thanks wizco and 88DX, I was able to get everything squared away and finally drive the car home from my buddies house.
