B vs K dilemma. Please advise as it has been a while :)
Hey guys! It has been a long time since I've been in a honda but my buddy is trying to unload his EF shell and I was thinking about picking it up.
The car previously had a K in it. He pretty much pulled the motor out and is throwing it in his CRX. I have 2 options.
- 1) Cut the K mount and weld a new transmission mount to accept a B. My friend does have an LS swap just laying around that he would probably sell to me for peanuts.
- 2) Just buy another K swap. Not sure how much it will run me but according to the forums, itll definitely be alot more than if I even bought a B swap.
Thoughts? Thanks all!

Then the deciding factor is truly about budget. Sounds like you know what you're getting yourself into as far a K swap goes. With that said, if it was me in your situation I'd just go B series for cost effectiveness and use the extra money on good suspension components. Spirited driving and mountain/canyon fun runs can be had with a B-series (even a D if you're down). Without a specified power goal/drag time/racing class requirement(s) with FUN being the only true factor, I think any swap would work. Now with that said if you're budget allows for a K-Swap then that's where you want to be.

For $3k definitely go B. If you are patient and can save up a few more dollars then go K. 24TEN put it best when he said the K-swap is where you want to be.

Ive never done anything except a K swap so my opinion may seem bias but I love the K series and if an EF shell is ready for a K then you are close to having all the hard stuff done.

One think that has never really clicked with me are k swaps. For the time and money it takes to swap one in, is it really worth it? When you account for the swap price itself, plus kpro, axels, mounts, wiring, shift linkage ect, I don't see how it's worth it.
my winter car this year is a 2003 ep3 hatch which comes k powered already. Cost me only $1500 for a fully loaded, rust free, k powered car, right out of the box. Swapping in a bigger k24 into that, I would barely break a sweat.
the ef cars are great, but to me, the budget price of swapping a B makes much more sence
