Default 89' Crx si build thread

I meant to start this awhile ago but here it goes, I bought an 89 Honda Crx si from Indiana for 1400$ with plans to swap and build it.

Here's what it looked like once I got it home

My first agenda was to fix the rust, and try to do something about the awful paint fade it has! I started by sanding down the areas very thoroughly then cut out the areas that the rust had gone completely through. I welded in some metal in and bondo'd and sanded till it looked and felt good at this point I had decided for a temporary fix and plasti-dip that car until I eventually paint it.

It came out looking pretty good and I scored a set of gsr blades for 125$ with tires on them!

Well I made another good find today I ended up getting a crx hf with a b16a sir & lsd trans it also has a 16g td05h, how ever it's not in good shape it took some front end damage during an accident in the winter. It got hit in the front bulk head on the drivers side it didn't hit the engine besides the valve cover and slightly cracked it, Im going to pull it do all the gaskets timing belt water pump etc, rebuild the turbo and hopefully have it in my crx this summer. Will post pictures of it soon, I got the car for 1600 and got it towed home for 70$! :D

first thing i would do is scrape that 1320 sticker off it

Automotive Paint, Car Paint, Auto Paint - PaintForCars.com has good deals on urethane and clear check their ebay auctions and you can often get a can for a bit cheaper than the website.

Haha I recently did take the sticker off, thanks for the heads up about the paint! I took some pictures of the crx with the b16a I bought it's missing parts front bumper rear bumper and the hood but all I wanted the car for was the engine and trans.

After that I decided the next thing to do was getting the engine out of there It was pretty easy work with the help of a friend it was out in a few hours.

Dang, $1600 is a pretty good price for that donor car.

Do you know what kinda engine management they were using for the "boost"?

I'm not completely sure I knew the previous owner of the car it had a good tune but I unfortunately don't know where from , he bought it from the guy who had built it so I'm trying to get ahold of him and see what all went into it. When the car was running it was on 13 pounds of boost launch control at around 3200 rev limiter was set at 7500 and was said to be around 230 hp, I'm hoping to be able to do a full rebuild on it before it i put it in.

Hmm, you really think a rebuild is necessary?

Just saying, if the engine was running when it crashed, and it's still good now, I'd just run the **** outta that boosted B.

If/when it pops, then I'd do work with rebuilding it.

That's just me...

Do you still have the factory front crossmember in your car?

If you do, I believe you will run into clearance issues with the engine because of the turbo bits hanging off the front of it.

Yeah I do have the stock one on still, I'm going to see if the one from the donor car will work but if it doesn't do you have any suggestions on a nice one?

Well just judging by the crash damage on the donor car, I'd say that the one on that yellow car is fucked.

I was planning to buy the Innovative one when I go turbo. It's compatible with the half width radiatiors.

Affordably priced, too.

Yeah the one on the yellow car is actually ok but it's not just bolted, but welded on so I ordered an Innovative off amazon for 242 cant wait for it.

Well I got a great package in the mail yesterday that included new tie rods, ball joints, and my crossmember! Not all of it is in the picture

Here's my crossmember fully installed I had some slight fitment issues getting it lined up but in the end I got it all bolted up, sits at a really nice height not nearly as low as imagined.

It is likely a bad distributor. I had the same issue with my B16 and some random distributors I had.
