4wd civic wagon into 2wd?
i have a 4wd civic wagon 89', the tranny has a ton of play in it and its on its last legs, it bangs into second gear sometimes and i have a feeling its on its way out. i don't know **** about a rear wheel or four wheel drive setup. can i convert this car to a standard two wheel drive setup. i would like to swap an ls or something into it and remove the entire rear end to eliminate problems. thanks in advance to all the wagon heads.

don't be a queer and destroy another wagon. Go to an engine importer, they get Zcs all the time with awd trannies, they usually let the trannies go for cheap as hell.
Plus you can't swap that over to a normal fwd D series( or b series for that matter) tranny because wagovans use a cable shifted transmission.
There is however a lever on your transmission you can pull to convert it to 2wd.

Re: (youtouchmytralala)
you should have your info straight before you call people queers, epecially if your a 2005 guy.
im glad you figured out that the wagon is cable trans. now you know what everyone else on this forum already knew.
i can easily get a cable b-series.
i did not know about the 4wd setup available with some zc's so your post wasn't total garbage.

Re: (biglebowskicivic)
When he says "cable shifted" its not the same as a what is called a cable transmission around here.
A regular cable tranny refers how the clutch is actuated. The gear selection is done with a solid shift rod/linkage.
Cable shifted (the wagon trannys) also have cable actuated clutches BUT the gear selection is also done with cables.
Without a whole donor 2wd wagon, I don't know how realistic "removing the rear" is. You might get away with leaving the back half of the driveshaft and removing everything north of the viscous coupling.
