Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
My turbo B16A3 rev limits at 7200rpm for some reason. I'm running a Hondata S300 in a P28 and using the Gauge cluster that came w/ the VX. This engine hits VTEC and everything. I'd swap another ECU in to see if it was that but finding another chipped s300 P28 isn't gonna' happen (especially the area I live in). A little history on trying to get this think fixed before the suggestions start coming in...
1) I have just recently replaced my Dizzy w/ a new one
2) replaced IAT sensor yesterday (was throwing a CEL) but was gone after I replaced it
Could this thing be in limp mode? Tach? If it's in limp mode will VTEC still engage? (because mine does). Do I need to reset the ECU or anything?
Thanks for your help in advance!!!

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
so it runs like a d16z6? a fuel cut of 7200 is for the z6 motor. what was your redline set on during the tuning session, or did you just buy a hondata engine management?

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
Did it rev higher before and suddenly rev limit lower? Or has it always only rev'd to 7200 rpm?
Did this occur before or after you changed your distributor? If it happened after, did you set the timing correctly with the distributor after you installed it?

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
It had always indicated it revved to about 6500-7k on an old cluster I had when it was N/A but switched out clusters w/ a friend of mine and went all the way to 8200. Now though, I switched from my old P30 ecu to this p28 s300 and on the dyno it went to 7200 and then cut out. I installed this distributor BEFORE I went to the tuner and didn't seem to be a problem. How do I set the timing on it? The car is on extremely low boost (3.5-4psi) and we never touched the timing just fuel maps. Can I adjust the dizzy w/o messing up the tune if we just screwed w/ fuel?

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
Uhm... You have a Hondata S300 P28 and your wondering why its at a 7200rpm Rev Limit? Why don't you change it if you have S300? Messing with the dizzy wont change the rev limit, the Cluster has nothing to do with the rev limit, Not even the motor has anything to do with the rev limit. The rev limit is set in the ECU. Stock its 7200. But when you chip an ecu or run a setup like Hondata, you can change the Rev Limit to whatever you like.
connect the USB cable, Hook it up to a laptop or pc or whatever you want to use, Run the Hondata tuning program, And change the rev limit. Problem solved.

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
If it was that easy then I would've already done that. The rev limit on it is set to 8330 but it still didn't fix it. I don't know, it just seems weird...

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
Ok, so I hooked up my laptop to the ecu yesterday and it indicates that the engine is indeed revving out to 8200. Now, I have to figure out whats going on w/ the cluster (VX cluster) or where I can get one that will read accurately. Suggestions?

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
No boost cut and the S300 indicates on the display that I am in fact hitting 8200rpms. Bad cluster maybe?

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
So when you hit 8200rpm's from what Smanager or HondaLogger claims.... Your cluster is showing 7200... Sounds like a bad alignment in the cluster. Try a different one. They are a dime a dozen up where I'm from.

Re: Turbo B16A3 hitting 7200 rev limit
yessir... I thought there was something wrong w/ the engine but I'm leaning more towards the cluster being faulty. Car pulls strong, idles well and all that great stuff. Anyone know where I can get a good, accurate, working cluster?
