Trunk Drain Plug

Which drain plug are you talking about? There are freeze plugs that you have to pop out, but why would you want to do that, you have a pool back there? Just get a wet/dry vac.

damp? Damp? DAMP? Its like a ******* hurricane is back in my trunk, when I got the car i pulled back the carpet and notice there was about a 8' by 5' hole missing out of the side of my trunk. I fixed that but it still gets wet as hell and Id love to have this fixed.

Flathead screwdriver + rubber mallet.
I'm not sure if it goes in and out freely, mine was ******* bondoed in there or some **** - it was like glue . I'm guessing there was a trunk leak at some pint. I just broke mine out and left it out, it has/had no negative effects on the car. Having it out exposed outside atmosphere might seem bad, but it won't do any harm.

Yeah, that's fine, too.
You do realize there's a rubber grommet you can drill out, back there, right?

The plug, when removed, allows the water to drain. Removal of the plug doesn't make the car wet inside, it does the opposite.

I hope you did something to protect the metal body.

Re: Trunk Drain Plug
I know this is an old thread, but my question is directly related to what's mentioned above.
Is the big O rubber drain plug the only hole that drains water out of the spare tire area in a Hatchback EG? Are there any small holes in the spare tire area that also act as a drain? I have my trunk covered with sound deadening material and can't see the body anymore. I was thinking about cutting around the O drain plug or just make a new 1/4" hole in the bottom of the floor instead.
Why do our cars have a drain plug that has to be removed for it to function? Why aren't they 1-way drain plugs that allows the water escape without letting in water? It seems a little odd that a person has to pull the plug out and then reinstall it when the water is drained?
I'm accumulating a littler pool of water in my trunk when I go through a high powered car wash. The water usually goes through the seal between the tailgate and the glass. I'm not too concerned about it for the fact that I can stick to a hand wash facility instead.

Re: Trunk Drain Plug
I suspect the drain plug was meant as a one time deal. Possibly for a paint bath?
Once pulled out of the paint pool, the you plug/cap the parts that shouldn't need to drain for the next 20 years or so?
My trunks are still bare on the 5th gen hatchback, I can take some pics for you if that would help. Will be a few days though. Terribly busy as of late.

Re: Trunk Drain Plug
Yes, that would be great if you could take a picture.
If it turns out there aren't any other smaller drain holes, I'll just make a few myself and seal it so it doesn't rust. It doesn't look like if drilled correctly, the hole leads directly outside. So, I wouldn't have to install any type of grommet to keep splashing water from entering?

Re: Trunk Drain Plug
It looks like my memory was correct. There's a small hole below where the center of the tire screws into the car. I'll see if I can get in there and reopen that hole.
