Default Synthetic Engine oil

hi, i have a 98 civic ex coupe, with 150,000km on it, and i am thinking to change the oil to synthetic. But i have heard that changing to synthetic at high mileage would cause leaks, is this true and why would it? i thought synthetic is better oil?

and would there be a problem switching back to regular from synthetic, and do i need to flush it before putting new oil in it?

thx

If your engine is in good condition there shouldn't be a problem. I switched my D16Y8 to synthetic around the 120000 miles mark.

There really isn't a benefit to using it anyways.

i ran Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic in my old D16Z6 and it ran great. after 3k miles, the oil didn't even look that dirty.

after i swapped in the B18C i used dino oil for the first 3k miles, then switched to Mobil 1, and my engine started to run into problems. it burned oil... like a little over a half a quart a week. also, right by the pressure solonoid i got a leak. it

turned out to be a cam seal. i switched to Castrol Syntec after that and the problems were still there.

last night i changed my oil and this time i put Castrol GTX in. i haven't driven it yet since the oil change, but hopefully it will stop burning oil.

there were some threads in the "Integra Type R" forum about people having problems with burning Mobil 1 synthetic and Castrol Syntec. you might want to do a search there.

and you shouldn't have any problems switching from dino oil to synthetic and then back to dino oil.

i wouldnt use it that soon. even tho 3k is everythig should be sealed and broken in by that time id still wait till like 6-9 then id prob run a 0-30 or 5-30 unless i had a reason not to..

the Z6 had 72K miles on it when i switched to synthetic and the B18C had a 34K (according to HMO) when i made the switch.

i may have worded it funny in my previous post... both my engines were used and broken in before i ran synthetic.

ever since i've add ctr pistons, my motor would burn off about 1 quart of oil every 4000 miles.. but i have since changed to valvoline synthetic blend and using lucas' oil stabalizer and i have already driven 'bout 2000 miles and the reading on the dip-stick hasn't dropped and my oil still looks just as clean as when i changed it!

You really need to read up on the Lucas stabilizer.
