Re: Replacing the Rear Crossmember
It's totally a backyard project. I'm not sure how I would rate the difficulty. I'd say it's about the same as changing the timing belt just because there is a lot of stuff to take off. The hardest part is the fact that you have to do all the work on your back. If the car was on a lift it would be super easy. Look for a write-up on how to swap a rack and pinion and your golden.

Re: Replacing the Rear Crossmember
just curious, why is it you need to replace this part? stripped bolt hole? bent?
it's a pretty involved job... exhaust is in the way, shifter linkage is in the way, lower control arms (and sway bar if applicable) are attached to it, steering rack: tie-rods and steering column must be disconnected-i would pull the rack out with the "cross member" or "rear beam" as honda calls it.
there may be other odds and ends hooked to it. the motor/trans can probably just hang by the other mounts.
a good home mechanic with enough experience and a normal set of tools, some floor jacks and jack stands could probably do this in the driveway or garage. definitely a full weekend job if everything goes right. good idea to have it realigned after reassembly.
only you can decide how competent you are.

Re: Replacing the Rear Crossmember
I swapped mine last weekend in my garage, had air tools. You will need someone else to help you lift it into place. Btw '94 - '01 integra subframe will work if you had P/S and has an extra stiffening brace on it.

talk to everyone you know. Pizza and beer will help this.
I guess it's possible to do it by your self with jack(s) but will be much easier with extra people.

it can be done in the drive way,i just did it but i had the engine out. its a fairly large job, exhaust , steering rack (and lines), shift linkage, lower control arms, rear trans mount all have to be diassambled. Honda recomends using new bolts when you install the new subframe.
if sub frame is not bent i would suggest welding the crack untill you have the time and resources
