Ok so as it turns to winter I need to fix my rear defroster. Now while i have not done any major diag on it yet I did go through and check for fuses and what not. I ended up having a burnt out switch, so I replaced it.

Switch did not fix the problem. But whats weird now is that when I turn the lights on the Switch does not light up, but when I turn down the dimmer switch the amber bar on the defrost switch is nice and bright like the defroster was on and working.

Any inside would be greatly appreciated

I had this same problem with my fog/driving light OEM switches, which are identical in function to the defrost switch. There are five wires coming out of the switch, and I WAS able to figure out which two allow the lights to be turned on and off, but the other three....? One of the two switches works perfect, but the other one (which is wired identically????) dims inversely to the dimmers position and the indicator light sometimes comes on... sometimes not. I checked the bulbs and they work fine. I downloaded the wiring schematics, but of course the wire colour codes don't match the wires coming out of the pig-tails....

Does anyone know what the pin assignments are?

eg.
pin 1 = +12v
pin 2 = ground
pin 3 = switch leg for lights
pin 4 = voltage from dimmer
pin 5 = ????

Also ive had 2 different switches in excluding the burnt out one and both do it.

Viewing the Rear Window Defogger Switch connector from the wire side, from Left to Right:

A - BLK/YEL - 12V from fuse 13
B - BLU/YEL - to rear window defogger relay in under-hood fuse box
C - BLK - switch ground
D - RED/BLK - 12V from dashlights fuse 19
E - RED - to dashlights dimmer

^^ Crud. You wanted the pinouts for the fog lights, didn't you.

To the OP: I would check if you have a ground issue, first. The amber indicator light stays on constantly? Can you turn it on or off with the switch? Does it dim with the dimmer?

Indicator light only comes on when the headlights are turned on, and then its opposite of the dimmer, so dash dim = indicator bright; dash bright = indicator dim. And trying to toggle the switch does not effect the indicator light

I have the same problem with my 94 accord. I checked voltage at the connections on the defroster, i have 14 volts on the drivers side and nothing on the passenger side.
Any ideas?
