Problems with ABS Civic EG6
Wondering if any of you guys can help me out with this.
Recently bought Honda Civic vti EG6 - with abs
When i turn ignition all lights come up as normal except for the ABS one, they then all go off after a couple of seconds which is normal.. but why does the ABS light not come on at all? (Is this light supposed to come on at ignition and then go off????)
I have reason to beleive that the ABS system is not working, as on my way home from picking the car up, i applied the brakes, and locked up, smoke was everywhere from the tyres....
I want to look into this problem over the weekend, is there anything that you guys can suggest looking at first?
Your help will be greatly appreciated
Andy

personally i would just ditch the abs system entirely. Expensive to fix and not really worth it. but that is my .02 people feel free to disagree.

yes, it would seem a good idea to just leave it, but i would rather fix it, i am aware of the costs involved if something is wrong. Its just a case of feeling safe behind the wheel....
I'd rather be safe than sorry.

well the abs system is complex. I would say if your not a skilled mechanic, to take it in to a shop. if your really raking in cash take it to the dealer.

unfortunatly dealer is not an option, but im prepared to have a go at pretty much anything, i am a technician, just not a car technician. so im willing to have a crack, after all its something to learn.

yes the ABS light should come on when you start the car
same thing happened with my SiR, i was going through D.C and the ABS light kicked on (due to the rim almost coming off) ABS kept kicking in a few minutes proir to the light going on..i think i need a new wheel speed sensor..
yeah man, ABS sucks, i wish i didn't have it but im stuck with it, so like you i have to fix it..however only my passenger side rear wheel doesnt have ABS working...
good luck with fixing yours

agreed...ABS is alot more complex then you think...technician or not, even mechanics will tell you it's not easy. You gotta have all the right tools to diagonse a ABS problem...and if you aint got it, you're basically gonna be throwing money away on something that really isn't necessary.
