Oil light came on, bad oil pump?
This is a b18a1 in a 93 hatch. First started last night when I was driving the oil pressure light was blinking. Then today I am driving to school and the light comes on and it stays on, I am in 5th gear cruising and all of a sudden I rapidly start slowing down like the motor is locking up. Pull over and check oil and it is fine, open up the oil cap and theres all this white smoke in there... get it towed home and I take the valve cover off and it seems kinda dry in there, is this a bad oil pump?

same happened to me.
When I pulled motor apart, Oil pump gear had almost welded itself to the pump housing.
Also, #4 main bearing was so scared, crank was almost unuseable.

The oil light is triggered when pressure drops below 4.3 psi, which means that your engine is likely toast.

so basically the reason why the motor seemed to be locking up was because the pump was locking up and no oil getting to the motor? I am guna change the pump out, hopefully it will be ok ... I mean it is a honda

i don't care what happened, ur oil light cfame on oil wasn't being circulated, you might as well rebuild it, some thing goes for when its run without oil, best thing to do is to repair the bottom end now doing it right instead of waiting becuase it creates weak points and thats whats going to break, so do it right rebuild the bottom end, not terrebly hard to do just take ur time and do it right.
btw yea its a bad oil pump, common on d series i have lost 3 motors do it oil pumps on d series everytime i have just yanked the motor or rebuilt the bottom end

Re: Oil light came on, bad oil pump? (DirtySol)
Well my motor is not locked up and I dont see any metal shavings in the oil or anthing, what exactly is messed up on my motor now? I am not worried about the condition of the motor, I have another b18 siting in my garage right now being fully built for turbo, its just not done yet and I dont have the funds right now to finish it up quick enough to drop in... but yeah I cant get the crank bolt off, it must have seized to the oil pump gear

You n00b, those bolts are on crazy tight, put the car in 5th, have someone hold the brakes and jump on a breaker bar to get it off. It doesn't matter if your engine isn't locked, mine didn't lock either when my oil light came on, i was still boosting it until i started losing so much power it wasn't fun anymore (which only took a few hours), then i rebuilt it, with another crank of course.

I think what O16581724 5 2 5 is trying to say is the oil pump and the crank bolt are in no way related. I mean, in the sense that if the oil pump went bad, it would not cause the crank bolt to not come off. Excuse the double negative, but I think you get what I'm trying to say.
Anyways, the internet is not a crystal ball, we don't know what happened to your motor. That's why everyone is telling you to pull it apart and see for yourself. Worse case, get a block from the junkyard and just swap it in. It would prolly be the cheapest way to go.

The first things to check are the main bearings and crank journals.
