Mini Me ECU Question Y7 head onto D15b7 block
I'm mating a 96 y7 head onto a 93 d15b7 block.
Both are non-vtec. Do I need to change ecu's?
I know I need new distributor and plugs. Anything else needed new. It'll havbe a new intake manifold and all.
Main question is just the ecu. Am I good to keep my old ecu?

Interesting choice for a mini-me. Doubt itll gain much more power over stock, but it will gain some, and more if ya get the Y8 IM.
Anyways, Since this is not a stock setup, I'd not swap ECUs. Also, since the car has a D15B7, thats a 92-95 DX motor, right? Well, the D16Y7 is a 96-00 motor, and OBD-II, so its got a extra O2 sensor and other ****. Simply cause of that O2 sensor is enough reason to keep your stock ECU. The head will flow different, but your ECU should be able to help a little, also bein a OBD-I, altering fuel mapping will be easier than on a 96, ya can chip it. Id say reset your ECU when the swap is done, and rev it lightly when u first start it up (like to 3000k at most, the motor is cold anyways) and it should relearn this, and make alterations, as youd do with a filter change or manifold swap as well.

Here's what I have.
P05: 92-95 OBD-1 Civic CX
Is that gonna be ok? Do any wires or sensors need to be changed at all?

Well it's not really to gain power. Just to get the damn engine working. As long as the engine runs well and is working I'm ok. Am I gonna have to rewire for the extra 02 Sensor. Sorry I have many questions on this, but your advice is VERY APPRECIATED.

get a p06.
a p05 will most likely work like crap.
besides, the p06 will be better for you in the future if you plan on swapping again.

Re: Mini Me ECU Question Y7 head onto D15b7 block (killer6993)
keep your stock ECU. Don't get the d16y7's computer is what im saying. If you keep your stock one, and jus put the head on, your adding no more sensors, therefore there is no wiring you'll have to do. Can someone verify that the valvetrain will have proper clearence tho? My only concern for you would be timing adjustments. I mean your ECU should automatically do that. SOmeone????

Re: Mini Me ECU Question Y7 head onto D15b7 block (Redline96LX)
What is different with the p06 compared to p05? If I swap in this car again it'll be a B or H series so I would be using a completely new ECU. I just want this to work.
Also with the timing can I keep my same belt? I'm still a little confused on how the 2 O2 sensors are gonna work without rewire.
Thanks again for any advice.

your 02 sensor (singular) will be fine. if you just want it to run, itll be fine as is. fuel maping may not be perfect, but it should run. check with someone bout the belt tho, should be the y7's belt if im not mistaken

Re: Mini Me ECU Question Y7 head onto D15b7 block
D16y7 head on b7 block u can use the P05 but it wil run a little crappy due to the ecu not use to dumping much fuel and it has single wire 02 most likely like mine did. The p06 has 4 wire o2 run 3 more wires from ecu and get 4 wire o2 and it has a better fuel mapping and so on.. I have a y7 head on b8 block with stock dizzy and the b8 intake manifold.. Runs a little rough cuz the manifold but if u get a d16y8/z6/B7 manifold it will clean the problem up.. and dont forget the oil jet u have to remove on the Block if u dont u will regret it.. Hope this helps you out a little.. But deff worth the hassle of doing the head swap i love my EG it go's faster than ever with this head..
