Default info: used seafoam today in a 66000 mile d16y8

I used seafoam, in the gas cap, oil cap, and in through the intake manifold today. I did as the directions on the can suggested. The way I went through the intake manifold was a vacum hose, I think its called the "brake booster" vacum hose.

I put 1/3 of the seafoam in a cereal bowl so I could suck it up through the brake booster hose slowly. If I sucked too much up too fast the engine would die. It started smoking before I was done, but when I was done I let it sit for 5 minutes then I started it back up and reved it a good bit. Smoke went everywhere as expected.

The valves were a little more noisy when the seafoam was in it, I assume this was because the oil was "thinning". I've heard it does that. I then changed the oil when I was done.

Results:
Note: I also cleaned the throttle body (prob for the first time since the car rolled off the lot) w/ some throttle body cleaner, and also this is the first time the car prob has ever had the seafoam thing done to it.

It does idle smoother. That was the main thing I noticed. It seems like it runs better when I'm driving, but just a little if any. It almost seems as if it sounds better too.

Basically the only REAL noticeable difference is the idle. I think my cat is/was clogged and it helped clear it out some.

Overall I think it was worth the 5 bucks and 30 min of my time.

Hope this helps someone.

it's this stuff that i read about on here and I got from pep boys. i threw the can away, but basically its just the liquid you put in you engine that cleans out built up carbon. i searched and everything i read about it says its like this wonder product for cleaning engines on the inside.

Wow...you did that at only 66k miles???

I had that on my '00 Civic EX when I bought it back in Feb. Stock, on the dyno I made 109 whp. That was the highest we have seen with a stock Honda D16Y8. Usually we saw 105 or 106whp with about 20k miles. I figure mine is just broke in now. Put the turbo kit on, boosting to 7 psi and the engine runs like a top. I have about 4-5k miles on the turbo already.

I am surprised it would need it at 66k miles, even on a '96.

So what's your impression of it? Any noticable throttle response difference, or change in fuel milage? I know you said it seems to idle better. Probably the big thing is if you notice milage differences.

i haven't burned a tank yet, it's still almost full. i'm going to see what the improvement is when i fill up next time. i'll post in a week or two what the new gas mileage is.

oh yea and no change in throttle response.

Well...between you and me with hitting the dyno around 70k miles....I dyno'd at 109...seems to me that's about when they are broken in!

not that i know of. i just heard alot of stuff about it. i was a little scared about sucking it into my engine through the intake manifold, but i just went for it. it runs better now, that's for sure. i think it would work better on older engines though. i'm sold on it, i'm gonna do it every oil change. i might take a pic of my brother's 96 civic engine, with the valve cover off one day (not soon) then run this stuff through there, then take another pic. it has like 96000 on it.
