Honda 98 LX misfiring chugging worsening problem
Hey so here is my ongoing problem.. I posted this back in Sep 09'..
Hey Guys! So I own a 98' Honda Civic LX. Last week I started to notice that when I turned over my engine, my car was a little shakey. Shakey as in, the car shook/vibrated. Once I would give the car gas, it would idle fine. It also starts to idle fine if I just let the engine idle for awhile. There are no significant problems when I am driving or idling at a stop. This problem only happens when I first turn over my engine. I used my OBDII Scanner to see what error codes come up and there were 4: P0300, P0301, P0303, P0304. This is what the Scanner Manual said they were:
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
Last year I changed my spark plugs, wires, fuel pump, timing belt. I have searched online for what the problem could be/how to fix it and it seems kinda ambiguous and was wondering what others would suggest. Please Help! Thanks alot!
Now this was last week I posted this:
Then I changed my spark plugs again and my Check Engine light went out for about a week and went off and on for a few months. The last month it has stayed on and sometimes it blinks. It has gotten worse and it takes multiple tries to turn over engine, but is still really shaky for first minute. It turns over normal sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. With the post I did in Sep 09', a person mentioned to get new distributor cap and rotor... so i did... the problem still continued and I changed my spark plug wires as well.. still the CE light is on and the car shakes at start time to time... What else could be my issue do you think?
NOW:
My issue has gotten way worse now. My car doesn't only do the shaky thing when starting my car. Now it practically is misfiring whenever im cruising or idling between 1-2.5rpms... It might do it at higher rpm.. maybe i just don't notice it as much. So say for instance im driving down the street at low rpm, the car starts to almost like chug in a way. Its like a skipping cd, except on with the acceleration. Its almost like it has a feeling of running out of gas. This must have to do with my fuel line i believe. I put some fuel injector cleaner when i filled up yesterday and there was no diff at all. So where do i go next? Thanks

Re: Honda 98 LX misfiring chugging worsening problem
that was a lot to read lol
anyway my civic has the same problem as yours. My problem started when i removed the timing belt and i think i put it a notch or two off. How many miles are on your engine? Is your engine timed correctly?
i have 215k miles. i know the fix for mine is a new valve job, rebuild head, and time engine.

is that the only really possible thing that could be happening or is there something i can check before i take it in to the mechanic?

i dont know the specifics but you gotta pop the valve cover off, and then check all the timing marks and make sure they are aligned the right way. the guy who did my head gasket set the timing completely retarded and so i just caved and took it to the honda dealership. change of night and day, let me tell you. but it cost a pretty penny. almost $300 for checking and resetting the timing, and valve clearance

ya its getting worse day by day. Now everytime i start to hit the gas after i was stopped. my car vibrates and barely goes 5-10mph regardless of how much i push down on the gas peddle. then it takes a few seconds and then it like all of sudden triggers or fires right and then im fine in high rpm... what is this. you think that sounds like the timing?

timing is a good bet...if you can get your hands on a volt meter, you might do some quick tests on the computer and a few sensors just incase. its quick and easy...with the car off and the ignition on, i think everything is supposed to get 5v, atleast on my 92. Not sure if its the same for a 98.
