Help the I went to start my automatic 96' Civic and the key is stuck in the ignition the key will not come out but it will not turn all the way to start the car. The steering wheel has lots of play, and the park light is lit. Any suggestions. Would prefer not to have to get it towed to dealership...

try to take the key out and lock the steering wheel, put the key back in unlock it and try it start it

same thing happend to my 96 auto civic... i just had to play with the key (jiggle) for a while till it came out...

so you cant pull it out of the ignition, how hard are u pulling it?

Fairly hard and we have had 4 different people try it

you pull to hard you'll break the key

you may have a short somewhere. I'm not sure if the interlock solenoid just makes it so you cant start in any other gear and cant take it out of park unless your foot is on the brake OR it might also prevent removing the key. might wanna check into that

try jiggling the steering wheel while moving the key, that's happened to mine before but all it takes is to wiggle the steering wheel.
