So you've heard that taking out safety equipment will make your car safer?

I was told that the cars in japan dont have the reinforcements and in the case of a car crash the car collapses which causes less impact. We have them on in the U.S. because of insurance issues. Any small collision can total your car with the reinforcements off but it is safer for the driver. I was told this by a staff member of a local tuning shop. (a very popular tuning shop)

They do have the reinforcements, just not the same as the ones in the US.

See, different countries have different crash ratings. While in the US you might need 15mph bumpers, in Japan you might only need 5mph bumpers.

The reinforcements are meant to crumble too, and they do. Theys will lessen the impact on the occupants at higher speeds better than the "5mph" bumpers.

Even the CTR has bumper reinforcements (and the CTR for the 6G was only in Japan). It's reinforcements just look different than our large bar.

The unibody is meant to take the impact (that is, the car's body will compress) in a heavier crash anyway. Our unibody and the JDM unibodies are virtually the same besides that some components might be on the opposite side.

Furthermore, the reinforcement is meant to "pick up" the energy of the collision and transmit it along the frame rails to the unibody- through the roof and floor. By conducting the energy of the crash around you, more stuff on the car breaks, but less stuff on you breaks.

So taking out the reinforcements is an incredibly bad idea.
