fan isn't coming on....
last night my radiator fan wasn't coming on. my temp started to rise so i turned on the heater until i could pull over. when i would drive, the temp would go down, but at a stop light, it would rise.
we noticed that my fan wasn't turning on. we watched the temp go up and the fan never turned on. my temp never goes above the middle mark, it doesn't reach the middle mark.
i turned off the car and left the key in the on position. a few seconds later, the fan turned on. i turned on the car, then the fan turned off and the car started overheating again. i ran a wire to the batter to keep the fan running until i got home.
any suggestions on why this happened?

So did it reach or exceed the middle mark today or not? Because I will tell you my fan only comes on at about 3/4 of the gauge.

i didn't drive it today.
i'm about to go jump the thermoswitch and see if the fan clicks on.
when i ran a wire from the fan straight to the batter, the fan turns on. so that means that the fan is good right?
thanks

almost all the way to the top. it would have gone all the way up if i didn't turn off the car. it was way above the halfway mark.
motor in the car is a jdm gsr motor
i just jumped the thermoswitch...thats the one that on the t-stat right? well, i put a paper clip and the fan turned on. while the fan was on, i pulled the fan relay fuse, from the fuse box under the hood, and the fan turned off. when i put the fuse back in, the fan turned on.

i've tested the relay...its still good
i've tested the coolant switch...its still good.
i turned my car on yesterday and let it sit for like 10 minutes maybe and the fan didn't come on. the temp barely even rose up. the hoses were hot though.
maybe i didn't let it sit long enough.
