This will only work if the post is thraded into the mount.
Run a nut down on the threads, then run another one down on top of it and tighten the two together. Then put your wrench on the lower nut and unscrew the post from the mount.

I think you're right. If i'm understanding this you have one with no studs in it? Drill it out some and run a substantial enough bolt through it.
