Does an H22 in a 93 civic have a negative effect on handleing
I am building a 93 Civic for road racing use and I would like to use an H22 or a B18C, my question is does the increase in weight of the H22 make the car understeer more then it would with a B18. I know a lot of people have had success with an H22 for drag racing but what about road racing?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

If it's really for road racing then I'd say get the B Series.
The B is meant to rev and stay revved, and no matter what you do (bigger rear bar) to the H car the B car can do it and still have the handling advantage.
B gearing is much better than the H tranny's gearing too.
The B and H have similiar 5th gears, but the H trannies have the taller 4.26FD and really spaced-out 2, 3, and 4th gears.
It's the weirdest gearing combo from any "performance" Honda tranny IMO.
IMO the gearing advantage (plus you can get the ATS 4.929FD for the B tranny) and more revvable block/head make the B series the better choice.
I'm not saying that H motors cannot be road raced because certainly there are Preludes being road raced, but the B has the better reputation for being able to take beatings on the road course.

What series are you going to road race with? I know of only one that a civic hybrid can really compete in and be competitve, in a lot of the scca class's you end racing race prepared vetters and gt cars, but it depends on your region.
As Tom, siad it is probably not the best for road racing, 75 lbs is not a lot but weight is the enemy too.

Re: Does an H22 in a 93 civic have a negative effect on handleing (Solracer)
Dave,
I am just going to run the car in the NAZA and AZRA street groups they have here in AZ. The SCCA really has no class for cars that have some power but are still street legal. I used to race a lot with them in SSB but I have been out of it for a few years now and I just want to build a car for fun that I can drive out there and blow all of the 911 turbo and Viper guys off with. I dont have the space or time to have a full blown race car that needs a trailer and tow vehicle and all of that stuff right now.
