Del Sol Transmission Issues...
95-Del Sol S-Auto
Hello Everyone, this is my first post on this forum. So bare with me if I don't abide by the forum rules.
I picked up my first Honda about a month ago. It's a 95 Del Sol S, engine is strong for the year and miles but the transmission is where I am having most of my issues. If I am cruising the transmission has no issues what so ever. If I am in a hurry we have two issues.
One: Shifting from 2nd to 3rd it revs up real quick for a second and then back down to normal.
Two: If I gun it and put my foot all the way down on the gas I do not go anywhere. I just steadily keep going at my normal pace with the speed increasing at the snale pace it was before I pressed down on the gas.
I just came back from Aamaco and they said that the rev up means that my 3rd gear is gone or is going and the no movement on pressing down on the gas is because my filter is blocked off. And that I can't get to it until I take the whole transmission apart. The quoted me at $1200 with 6 months warranty. Obviously I wont be doing that since I work on my own cars but transmission are not where my skills are at so I come to all of you. What could be wrong? Thanks for the help and it is all appreciated.

to replace filter tranny has to be dropped. opened. clean inspected replace cluthes that are worn out etc. it can cost up to 1k to have it running like NEW!!! you'll have to let the civic guys give you the capacity im a accord guy but same concept. drain and fill flush service the transmission. don't use a flushing machine as it will damage the transmission.

I know that the filter isn't serviceable. But Is it true that the reason I can press down on the gas and go anywhere is because of the filter?

No. I don't see how that's possible. Sounds like you need to start looking for a nice used transmission.
Also, don't take your car to Aamco any more. They are a rip-off chain that only wants to sell you the most expensive option they can find.

Yeah that didn't make sense to me either Grumble. So if the recommendation is to start looking for a nice used transmission, should I bother doing the fluid change right now?
