Hello all! Let me start by saying that I have been researching for a couple of days until I am cross eyed! I bought a 1995 Honda Del Sol just over 2 years ago for my son and for the most part it has ran great. I recently took it over and noticed that the CEL did not light up when I turned the key to run. I found that the bulb had been removed. I replaced the bulb and the CEL stayed on. I found that the code was 9 short flashes which meant the cylinder sensor had a problem. I was told when I bought the car that the engine had been replaced with a JDM motor. The block is stamped D15B and the head has the markings P2A-7 / 96. When I bought the car I replaced several items such as the the plugs, wires, fuel filter, rotor and cap. I noticed that the previous owner had put the wrong rotor on it it and it was 180 degrees out and very sloppy. I replaced the rotor with the correct one and had to turn the distributor 180 degrees from original. The car has ran great except the oil leak around the distributor and now the CEL. From my research, the correct distributor for my d15B non-vtec engine is the TD-41U. The distributor that is on my engine is a TD-80U. Can anyone give me advice on what the correct distributor should be? I want to stop the oil leak and get rid of the CEL light. Any help would be appreciated!

It should be one of two different distributors. It will either be the TD-41U sames as the D15B7 or it will be the TD-42U which is in line with the D16Z6 or the D15Z1.

My wifes D15B with the carb type head that was converted to FI uses the TD-42U.

I think it will vary depending on which D15B you have.

Being the non vtec version, I am leaning towards the B7 distributor which is the TD-41U.

Sorry I can't be more definitive, it's the problem with the D15B JDM motors, there is 4 different flavors that I am aware of.

Thanks for the info. When you say carb type head, did that head have the block off plate for the mechanical fuel pump? I cannot find a block off plate on my cylinder head.

Yes my wife's head has the block off plate with liquid gasket on it and two bolts holding it in place. Right in the area a vtec solenoid would be.

Then the 3 other flavors of D15B are Fuel Injected (FI) in the non vtec, the vtec, and the 3 stage (dual vtec) varieties.

Also of note the only difference between the two distributors is the 3 connecting flanges are in slightly different positions. So if you get the wrong one, only two bolts will line up, the third will be off by some amount.

Well, I ordered a new TD-41U distributor today. From surfing the web, it looks like the mount flanges and cyp sensor are oriented the same as the TD-80U that is on it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The only two heads that are oddball are the D-series 92-95 VTEC heads. All others between 88-00 have the same flange pattern. With that said, if you're not VTEC the only thing you have to match up is the OBD of the distributor to the ECU if nothing else has changed.

The current distributor is OBD1 and seems to be working ok with the P06 ECU. Thanks for the info.

Actually the third head is also oddball, the carb version. I know this as my wife has it in her car and it's the vtec dizzy not the non vtec.

That's new to me, thanks for sharing. Can you share what the head stamp is on it?

Sure thing. Thought I had already done so in the post your head code here thread, but looks like I skipped that one.

I think at the time I didn't want to remove the heat shield as some brilliant person strapped it on at the bottom due to rust instead of replacing it.

I just recently fixed that so can pull the new shield off without issue and get the stamp codes from the head without worry now.

For an update, I received my new TD-41U distributor in the mail yesterday. I compared it to the TD-80U that is on it and everything seemed to be the same. I checked the timing with the jumper before I pulled the 80U and it was pretty close to +16 degrees. I installed the new 41U distributor, pulled the 7.5amp fuse and waited for at least 3 minutes. Fired it up, set the timing and all is good. No CEL for the CYP error.

So for others, D15B block with a P2A-7 head, TD-41U distributor works fine. Just need to test drive it tomorrow, to make sure it doesn't create any other errors. Google the P2A-7 head identification. I found very little. What I did find was old or incomplete. Thanks for the the input Tomcat39!

Just my observation, but it appears that the TD-41U and the TD-80U distributors are the same. I can provide pictures if needed.

I made a mistake on this. I could have sworn I saw TD-42U on the distributor but today I was working on the car and the Carb D15B is a TD-41U as was stated by 24ten.

My error. I got the pics so as to post in the post your head hear section.

The TD-42U is definitely for vtec(e) motors only. Non vtec is the TD-41U as was previously stated.
