Default Is 2k too much?

Alright i'm looking to swap out my auto d15b7 for a jdm d15b with a si tranny. Thing is i can get the motor for 400, the tranny for free, and i will still have to get all the misc. parts for the auto to manual, and the shop that is going to convert and do the swap wants 900. So total i'm looking at about 2k. Just wanted some opinions. Should i do it and them turbo. Or just do a b18 swap. The car is a eg sedan. Daily driver and i'm not too thirsty for power so i can put it off for a while. Also i was thinking about repainting my car. Should i do that instead? Just looking for some helpful insight. THANKS!

yes it's too much.

Get a jack, some jackstands and a tranny jack. a socket set, some tools and study the how-to. go over it so many times that you could do it if you had a gun to your head w/o being nervous lol.

You have a functional car right now, take the time to learn

i guarantee it will be more rewarding

That's what i was thinking. The only thing is i have to make sure i don't jump into something i won't be able to finish. I have been studying on turbos, painting(and bodywork), and the auto to manual swap for about the last 5 months so i feel a little confident. Your thoughts greatly encourage me. THANKS!

Another quick question. About how much would a rebuild kit for a manual transmission cost? And is there a difference between a 91 si tranny and a 92 si tranny?

I'm sure Gearspeed has rebuild kits with better parts. Bense would know the difference. But for 2k you could possible b-swap but then again you still have to convert. Have you considered just doing the tranny conversion first and waiting out the motor for a couple of months?? Make the motor part late spring, early summer project??

Try it yourself..THEN if you find yourself in over your head bring it to a shop! Thats why I started working on cars..."That'll cost me how much.... " So i did it myself...then went to school for it!

So with a 50 piece socket set and some air tools i could probably do it myself. Awesome. I will definately look more into it. Also how can i pass emissions in chicago with a jdm motor?

So it'll be easier to put the 92 on the jdm spec motor right?

you can't use a cable tranny on a hydro car. 88-91 = cable 92-00 = hydro.

yes i believe gearspeed sells tranny rebuild kits. That's somethign i've yet to do (i have like 9 trannys to pull parts from so i just pick the ones that are in best condition)

Paying any amount of money to convert a D15B auto sedan to a JDM D15B manual is a bad idea. Sell it and buy an EX coup/sedan or an Si hatch. You'll end up with the engine you want, the transmission you want and none of the work involved in doing a bunch of **** to make a super slow car into a regular slow car.

Best idea yet. Everyday I've regreted doing my auto to manual on my 96 coupe. I would have actually made money selling the car and buying a manual.

yeah, that's a very good point.

sometimes we get attached to cars. Which is stupid, cause we wanna butcher it all up just to get what we want out of it.
