Key won't turn in ignition

Key won't turn in ignition
I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX and I went to start my car this morning and the key won't turn at all in the ignition. The steering wheel was not locked and the car is in park. The key comes in and out just fine and the steering wheel is now locked but been messing with that for a couple hours and nothing. I bought some graphite and that didn't work either. The key works fine in the door handles with no problems so I don't think it is the key. Is it the ignition switch, the tumbler or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated I need to try and get this fixed by Friday.

Re: Key won't turn in ignition
Possibly the tumbers in the ignition switch cylnder, or the park/neutral interlock safety mechanism. You have not mentioned the type of climate you live in, was parked next to Lake Superior in sub zero winter weather one night, somehow enough moisture got into the cylnder to freeze it up and caused it not to function. Lock de-icer solved that problem after a tow.

Re: Key won't turn in ignition
Take your Honda to the dealer and have them get you a new OEM key. Should cost around $10. It is common for the key to still work on the door locks but be so worn it does not work in the ignition. This is not guaranteed to fix the problem but it would be my first step.
