2002 Honda Civic EX coupe
Hey guys!
I have a 2002 Honda that is having issues! There's oil leaking very badly and I'm not sure where it's coming from.
Oil seems to be leaking from above somewhere and its dripping in several places
Look at the giant puddle of oil!! It pours when the car is running.
My transmission was rebuilt last year and I had an engine swap as well ...d17 from another honda.
(My mechanic told me that my COLD AIR INTAKE blew my engine).
Now I'm not even sure if he actually swapped it or not. A local joint, Sean Lucas Garage ,ruined my car!! (Side note, my air conditioning was the best thing about my car before he touched it and afterwards it only stays cold for maybe 15 minutes of the ride. He said it just needs freon. I call bs)
Anyways! Back to the worst issue...
I'm not sure if the pictures help or not, I also have a video of it dripping.

A cold air intake could cause hydro-lock if you ran over a larger puddle of water, so there's a potential of damage from that.
As for the oil leak, does the oil trace all the way up to the head, or is just along the bottom of the crankcase? I'd roll under the car to find where its leaking from.

have you tried opening the hood? it looks like it's coming from in there :p
my money is on the rear cam seal, sitting pretty just behind the EGR

I also failed to mention that it sat for 3 months because I couldn't legally drive her.
A good 65% of my entire engine bay looks as if I poured 30 quarts of old yucky oil over it.
I'm going to get underneath her tomorrow for a closer look.
More pictures to follow if I don't figure it out!

Well guys..I'm greasy all over, face, hands, arms and *****...and...it's the rear main seal. A bit over my head but nothing I can't read up on and figure out.
I've found quite detailed forums with pictures on how to do this repair.
any tips would be appreciated
like common mess ups to avoid ...etc
Also, side question. ..

my car says rally sport on the sides of it...I always thought some weirdo just put random stickers on it before I owned it, but I recently saw another "rally sport" ex cope like mine. Does that mean it's different in some way from other Hondas of the same model and year or is it just a silly darn sticker?

i can picture an SI Veloz trim and the 30th anniversary trim... a rally sport package doesn't come to mind but I vaguely picture chrome and red badging. what wheels are on the car?
OK wait a rear main seal is getting 65% of your engine soaked??? I have to say, I find this really hard to believe. With THAT much oil seeping out everywhere, i have to assume there is a visible leak (maybe gushing leak is a more appropriate word?) that should be identifiable with the engine running.
Also, keep an eye on the oil level, don't cook the main bearings and the crank by running out of oil.
If it is in fact the rear main seal, the job is theoretically not that hard. Remove axles, remove battery and air box, remove transmission, replace RMS. Assembly is reverse of that :p

So, guys ...I thought I'd sell my car bottom dollar and just be done with it. This like 18 year old kid comes to test drive it and was in the bonnet a minute before saying,
your leak it's your valve cover gasket.
Ill find out for sure next week and just for mystery's sake, I'll let you all know.
thanks guys!
so much easier to work on than my bimmer...

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX coupe
entirely possible, but for there to be THAT much oil coming from the valve cover, it's as though there isn't any gasket there at all. Hopefully that does it for you
I've never seen that Rally Sport sticker before, thank you for posting the pic! Is there any other insignia anywhere? Trunk lid, inside the car, embroidery in the seats?
RS is a sedan trim in Asian countries, but it doesn't look like that.

However, I too am interested in this. I've Googled, and perhaps just not had the proper inquiry to result in any decent leads, and often wondered the significance, if any, to the rally sport stickers on my ride.
I would love to know any insight on this! Especially before I possibly get rid of it.

Oh my, good lord the grammatical errors in my posts, not to mention the spelling errors. Forgive me guys, if I was not on my phone and perhaps on my laptop I might make more sense.
