2002 Honda Civic ECM and Immobilzer
So i was driving my 02 Honda to class, after it wouldn't start i ran into a problem. I knew it wasn't anything electical checked the fuses good. I couldn't figure it out, had it taken to a local mechanic. He tells me that my timing belt is skipping or jumping. i knew it needed to be changed so it was ok. Then a week goes by i call him, he tells me after he changed the belt it still wouln't start so hhad to send it to a Honda shop for a professional opinion. He then tell me that my immobilzer and ECM were the problem. My question is was i had by the mechanic, or was it his fault that the ecm went out due to him repeatidlytrying o start it when he replaced timing belt? or is it common for the immobizer and ECM to go out at the same time?

How could mechanic tell car had skipped timing if the car could not start to begin with. Suspect you got taken by someone whom has no idea what they are doing. Still sounds like he has no idea to explain the problem, ecm has final say with the immobilizer circuit to prevent car from running if something is not proper. Could be a receiver issue, ecm being dead. Contact the Honda dealership to see what they have isolated the problem to be.
