Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
^ cant help, but good luck!
Speaking of the keys though, does anyone know how many different numbers there actually are? Looking at the lock mech, I can only see 16 different configurations (..or very likely only 8), and see the same numbers repeated far too often to prove otherwise...
Very nice. Are they new?
Definitely a good looking wheel.
Dori-dori's - like the SSR mesh, MK-series, all the SSF racing models, etc - can luckily get away without their caps though! Finding spare for my bang-vecs which otherwise clearly look incomplete... <_<
Interestingly, there is a brand new set of super fins on Yahoo now. Has cycled around for a few weeks..
4x100... but 14x6, non-locking caps, and 200,000yen has scared me off for now!

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
Hope you guys like Type-C's..!
These were introduced in 2000 alongside SSR's Semi-Solid-Forged / SSF Type R, V, M, and X.. then later joined by the Type F.
The Type C supposedly raised (..or lowered!?) the bar for light weight. These were light.
The early 2000's catalogues, promotional, and racing, featured the Type-C heavily. These are discontinued now though, and I'm seeing less of them about as a result..
From release - the 2000 catalogue:
..2002/2003..:
..2003/2004..:
2004/2005..:
..2 piece..
..1 Piece..
I've posted pics of a set of gold ones on my AW11 here a couple times; but here is the still un-mounted spare. I had a 5th tyre put on it at the same time as the others, yet it has never rolled on the ground. I never stuck the additional decals on this wheel either...
I don't know what I was planning to do if i got a flat.. but... it would have involved a flatbed tow truck!
Little swing-tag that were hung on these wheels..
These were made in an era when the production date was clearly printed in reverse on the decal (late 90's to mid 2000's).
...These just happened to be made on christmas-eve 2003!
Anyway, apologies to anyone who isn't a fan of large blocks of pics.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
This is something I was pretty damn excited to get my hands on. A classic SSR race wheel, and possibly the most ridiculous wheel I've ever seen..
19x15 -37
4x114.3
3/1984
Its a rear wheel off a Group-5 Super Silhouette race car - a racing series that ran in Japan between 1979 and 1984. These wild over-spoilered and over-powered race cars ran an assortment of awesome staggered BBS/Rays/Impul/SSR wheels - 16" on the front, and nineteen by fifteen inch on the back!
I'm almost certain this wheel is off the back of the Tomica DR30 specifically; after the gold mesh it had ~1982, and before the rear wheels that are on the car currently were added.
The standard larger (and relatively uncommon) SSR mesh face (I posted pics of a set of these I had in 16" a couple pages back), which was then stepped and stepped out to make the 19" wheel diameter..
closeup showing how it was simply drilled and tapped for mounting of the aero cover...
Lonely valve sitting in 8+ inches of dish...
Tyre is a Dunlop Full-slick in 350/700-19
..a world of stepping..
Its seriously hard to show just how huge this thing is - on its own it just looks like a wide wheel.. as if it were a 14x10 or something..
..Put it beside something else for reference, and bam.. it makes this 15x7.5" reverse mesh look like a space-saver!
Whats crazy is that this is still a bloody big wheel today; but in an era when near everything ran 14's and 15's, and 15x6.5" aftermarket wheels were standard fare; this thing must have been absurd!
I seriously love it.

You're not alone collecting vintage race series wheels. If that truly is from the Tomica Skyline, I'm going to be overcome with envy.
However, I do have one of the Hasemi's from the 1996 generation JTCC cars currently making its way to my doorstep. I believe it came off of the Castrol sponsored Nissan Primera. It'll go nicely with my 787B front wheel with aero cover.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
cant picture the SSR, but would love to see it. That 787B wheel would be awesome though.. One of my all time favourite race cars...
Not particularly rare, but I have one of those hilarious 13x14.7" SSR Hoshino's (very) slowly making its way to me. No tire unfortunately, but helps exaggerate the over-square...ness. I'll post pictures of that eventually!

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
Cool stuff.. and looks like it's survived in great shape.
Good thing I suppose about old race wheels. Other than the risk of them getting recycled when the racing is over; since no car can run them, the ones that then go into peoples shops/garages/houses/storage) stay in awesome shape. Ignoring a little extra dust, that wheel likely looked exactly the same when it was set aside 18 years ago.. right down to the wheel-weight tape marks.

If I could get a full set of them, you can bet that I'd machine a set of hubs to run them on my track car. Centerlocking wheel mounts aren't really all that difficult to machine. I'd just reverse engineer the wheel's hub to make the desired mount, then make some single lugs to match.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
Sorry didn't read through the thread, I picked up some SSR Type C RS and just dropped them off for refinishing.
Anyone know where the best spot is to pick up reasonably priced wheel decals?
I've seen a few options via google search but was hoping to hear personal experiences based on quality. Sorry I can't justify to fork out $100 for original decals.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
You paid how much to refinish them but don't want to put down the money to buy quality pieces from the company that originally produced your wheels?
I know you do.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
We will see, if I go with just the SSR logo I can swing $40. But the thought of spending nearly a hundred for $5 worth of vinyl makes my stomach hurt to get the entire RS pack.

Test fitting my new wheels on the EF2, the replacement for my sadly departed Micra:
Waiting on tyres now. 175/60 Dunlop ZIIs.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
Probably won't get caps, I don't really like centre caps in general. The MK caps are quite tall too, and would make the limited dish these have look less dishy. Specs are 14x7 +12 w/ 5mm spacer at the front to clear the brakes, and 4x6.5 +19 at the rear.

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
luckily its a wheel that easily gets away without having the caps.. I rarely see people running them on the MK-series wheels.
Finished painting/sanding/clearing some EX-C Fin plates - a painfully tedious process..
Good enough... as either way I'm not going to want to re-do them in a hurry!

Re: SSR WHEEL PIC THREAD
No tips unfortunately.. Its self-explanatory - as annoyingly fiddly as it would seem.
The EX-C Mesh plates are definitely easier.. <_<
Anyway..
- Paint stripped them bare.
- sanded and scuffed them up, to get rid of the surface corrosion..
- painted black
- masked around the words one by one, sanding the letters down until the black paint was gone.
- gently sanded all the text in a circle, to try and keep a machined look.
- lightly scuffed all over
- clear
Would look a million times better if I used 2k instead of a poor quality acrylic, had the ability to machine, etc.. But they look better than they were, that's for sure!
