Default N1 Andy's Re-Build thread

Since I can't leave well enough alone and it's winter time, I got boared today and pulled the motor out of my car. I figured I've never really done a build thread so I'll start one. The car was pretty clean already but there is alot of things that I know about that others don't, and I don't like that. The car is a Stock bottom end LS/Vtec with a 61mm turbo on it, It was tuned by Dave Lee to 400/300tq on 110octane, its been running strong for a year now, I do almost everything myself, only thing I don't do is paint and tuning. The catch can, intercooler piping and backdoor i/c was done by my roomate (slowreaction here on HT) He's a much better fabricator then I am, I did the exhaust, downpipe, cage and modified the manifold, basically any fab work you see that is just mediocre I probably did...lol The nice work was done by my roomate.

The plans are to build a Mil-Spec harness, shave and paint the engine bay, possibly do a brake line tuck, possibly get my roomate to build me a manifold, build a traction bar, and whatever else I feel like doing in the meantime.

This will be a long drawn out process, time and money is somewhat of an issue at the time so it might be a while...stay patient for updates...lol.

Mod's can feel free to move it if this in the wrong section...I didn't realize there was a build section.

Got some stuff done this morning, pulled the dash out, cut all the old brake lines off ground down all the places where I will be filling holes. Just need a MIG welder to start filling, we have 2 TIGs here but filling holes with a TIG sucks. Need some money to buy lines and fittings, The fun can now begin, the shitty part is over (pulling dash and motor)

A couple pics of this mornings adventure:

couple of new pics, no real cool progress, just painstaking crappy job progress...

Motor on stand for harness mock up:

Harness completely stripped and ready to be re done, I decided against building a completely new harness, I don't know if I trust my electrical abilities that much yet. I will just re-work this one:

Testing out the line bender I have. I might stick with these lines, I like the way they came out, need to order tube nuts and sleeves and bulkhead fittings, probably coat the lines also for looks:

Holes pretty much all filled, horribly with a flux core mig lol. Oh well I'm griding it off anyways right?:

All the fills ground down (that sucked) and I began filling with upol dolphin putty, this stuff is great to work with, lighter and easier to work with then bondo or some ****:

Thats all for now, I hope to order fuel and brake fittings and parts next week, then I can start making some serious progress. The harness is 98% done, wires are all terminated into a 55pin Mil-Spec connector, all the wires on the chassis side are terminated. I'm not happy enough with it yet though to post pictures. I will once I feel it looks good.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I got my big order from Summitracing.com, and I got some free time today so I got alot done. Brake lines are all done, started on some sanding, just need to order one part for the wiring harness to be complete, sand alot more, possibly do a little more filler and prime and paint!

My roomate and I decided we are going to build a manifold for it, I think next summers goal is to make 400whp on e-85 with a stock block, avc-r/bbg and some sticky tires up front. It should make a pretty nasty street car. It made 400 on trick 110 octane, but $10.50/gal. sucks, $2.50 is much better Closest E-85 station is about 25 miles away, but as cheap as that stuff is I could buy it 55 gal. at a time for just over $125 and keep a drum in the garage. I figure I should be able to make 400whp with 880cc's, it will be working them hard but I think I can do it if I bump up the psi @ the rail.

Enough talk, on to the picture updates:
I'll find my digital camera one of these days, cam/phone sucks...

And before anyone mentions the pedal/line clearance, I checked and there's well over an inch when fully depressed.
