Default My 2005 Accord Stereo Won't Turn On or Off!

First what happened was I turned the car on and I noticed the music wouldn't work and it wasn't telling me the time anymore. It was just an empty display, so I wrongfully assumed the only problem was that it was off and wouldn't turn on. So I thought nothing of it and went to school all day. Then when I came home to my apt., I turned off my car and the back light for the stereo still was on! The engine was turned off...but the light wouldn't come off on my stereo. The little green light is on underneath the display.

So I'm just sitting here confused while the display remains lit up for no reason. I don't know anything about cars really. Is this going to drain my battery? If I wait until morning to take it to a Honda dealer, will it still be okay? I mean even if there was a way to do something under the hood, my inexperience with cars would make me hesitant to try.

hmmmmm. Did you buy the car used? If it ever had an aftermarket head unit, the wiring may have been put together poorly (ie. electrical tape instead of heat shrink) If the tape has come unwrapped, you may have some wires crossing. If its stock, I'd be curious to the diagnosis.

No it wasn't used. It was bought new around Dec 2004. It has about 71,000 miles on it now. But 3 or 4 months ago I had the battery replaced. Still if that was the problem...why would the stereo situation only surface now? So I don't know. I'm just going to try to wait until morning and hopefully the battery won't be drained by then.

Did you ever figure out what was causing this?

did you know holding the CD/AUX button about 5 seconds turns off the display? are you inadvertantly doing this? it shouldn't cause the display to never turn off though. update?

My sheet from the dealer says it was an "electrical source failure." It says the battery cables were removed and the audio system memory was drained and cleaned, then rebooted.

I guess it was just a bad connection. Oh well. $67.50 down the pipe. I don't think I was holding the CD/AUX button. It happened right when after I started the car.
