Hi,

I've been told 3000, but my owners manual says 7500. I have a 98 honda accord v6 with 128k. I currently drive 35 miles (one way) to school, 4 times a week. I don't drive aggressively or anything like and it's usually raining where i live. I'm using castrol synthetic blend at every oil change. Would it okay to wait until 5k miles to get it changed?

Most people change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. If you never beat on the car and are using synthetic blend, 5,000 mile intervals should be perfect.
7,500 miles in between oil changes is acceptable too but is kinda on the borderline.

Personally, and I'm not really trying to tell you what to do, I perform maintenance only at what the manual specifies.

This means that with my 2006 Accord J Motor car, the oil changes are usually at 10,000 miles because I am mostly highway driving.

Car has 104K miles and no problems, of any kind, ever.

Yes. The engine is not doing to blow up if it's reaches 5001. No need to worry. The main thing is to change it. The intervals are debatable from both sides.

That's about 25,000 miles a year. Lot's of driving....

It's a decent car to get stuck with. Decent power, involving, comfortable for extended periods, and still provides decent fas mileage.

but yes its all on u some ppl 3k some 5k some even 10k so depends on the motor oil u use as well!

It's an on-going GDD joke with some kid who changes his plugs and oil every one thousand miles.

You can't go wrong following Honda's recommendation. In the past my family and I have changed the oil on our cars at 3k mile intervals. That was using whatever brand name oil was on sale with what ever brand name filter was also on sale. We never had any oil related issues on our cars. Some of our cars were kept for well over 200k miles without an overhaul. So that strategy works. Now I have newer cars and I have been doing 5k mile intervals and I use Walmart full synthetic oil and Honda filters. Again, no issues, but I haven't put that many miles on the car.

Go with the manual but a caveat: there's usually two driving conditions listed: normal and severe. Look at the qualifications for each and you'll see that "severe" driving is what most people do everyday and includes prolonged higher engine speeds (i.e. mostly highway driving), short trips, stop and go driving, etc. If I'm not mistaken 7,500mi is usually for normal driving and 3-5k is for "severe" driving.

As stated before the most important part is to change it. For your 128k 98 accord with your driving habits and oil choice, a 5,000 mile oil change interval is great.

With the Maintenance minder on Accords now, I've seen 5,000 miles up to 12,000 miles on the oil changes...I drive my 09 EXL V6 pretty hard and I have 6,000 miles on it and 30% oil life left on the MM..

I just follow the maintenance minder. It adjusts for driving conditions, temperature, length of trips, idling time. The interval between changes has increased from the old days due to better combustion.
