2005 Honda Accord thinks it is in Drive when it isn't.
Hello everyone. My one working vehicle is stuck at the local grocery store so I'm really hoping someone here might have an answer to this one. I'm stumped!
When I put the key in and turn it, the light for both "D" and "P" show up on my dash. If I switch it to "R" when I turn the key, it will show "D" and "R" at the same time, and so on. I think the car thinks it is in Drive even though it's in park and that is why my car won't start. When I put the key in to start it, there is a single click when I turn the key, no other clicking or rolling. I've ruled out the battery already with different tests and then ultimately bringing the battery down to have it tested and it is good.
Anyone ever heard of this happening?
Thanks,
Devin

After hearing from multiple mechanics that my starter was bad and that it would be around a $500 fix, I decided to get under the hood and replace the starter myself. I got on YouTube and started to learn all sorts of information about the starter and learned more about the electrical plugs that go to the starter. I had heard that if those are not grounded properly, the starter would not work. After reaching around in the front of my car, I noticed that one of the plugs that connects to the starter was not entirely "snug" in it's connection. I pushed it together better, turned the key and BOOM! The car started, no problem.
To think if I went in to the shop I'd be out $500 and all they would have done is plugged it in again. Hahaha.
Thank you to everyone that read the post and gave my issue a good thought! Hopefully if someone else has a similar issue they will be able to quickly find that it could just be a loose connector.
