When to change alternator..pls educate me
I've looked and search, but I've had no luck.
My sexy girlfriend's car is an Accord Ex 1998 with 140K miles. The Accord's alternator is still original.
While the car is on neutral, other than the headlight dims a bit when I press the accelerator, the car runs like new.
I don't like to wait until she has a problem. I do not want her causing an accident as she flag down for help while wearing a mini skirt. As such I like to proactively change components before it breaks and keep her running.
What are the signs of an alternator dying? When should I replace the alternator and typically, how long does an Accord alternator last?
Thank you in advanced for your advise and educating me.

The OE on mine gave out at 350K......if and when it does, the charge light and the abs light will come on.....teach her that that means something is not right and to get to a safe place.....then IMO, repair the OE unit-new brushes-should last longer than you will have the car

Replacing components is not part of scheduled maintenance. Replace them when they fail. If you are concerned about the part failing soon, replace it and stop worrying.
