Power Steering Fluid

Power Steering Fluid
Hi I checked my power steering fluid level because the pump was growling. It was about half way between min and max so I topped it off with some power steering fluid I had. The noise stopped. Would a little bit of non-Honda power steering fluid hurt the power steering fluid. Or should I flush it out as soon as possible and put in all honda power steering fluid?

Well don't take this the wrong way....
two things.
1) hard to believe that that little fluid made the pump stop making noise.
2) if you are going to own/drive/work on a Honda...keep Honda/Acura PS fluid on hand...and if you knew it was not the correct fluid to use????
Anyway, I don't think the 1~2 oz of fluid you added will hurt that much....when was the last flush?

I didn't know it needed special fluid and I have no idea when the last flush was. I put about 8000 miles since I got the car and never did it.

Re: Power Steering Fluid
I saw the pump leaks once when not using OEM Honda's fluid. you don't need to flush the system. Drain and fill is best. Always use Honda's fluid. The noise you hear is probably some thing else. Growling noise could means your pump is failing when air gets into the system. Just watch your reservoir for regurgitation if the pump fails. You can rebuild the pump.
