I received a notice of a class action lawsuit against Honda for the V6 Automatic tranny. They are trying to extend the warranty to 109k..

They will extend the warranty to 93 months from the date of original purchase or 109k in service.. Honda has projected the cost of settlement to be 90 million. California court is going to decide on Dec 28th.

I thought the warranty was already extended to 100k miles. Or was it 80k? What gen are we talking about here?

i got the same thing in the mail, it says you can get a new trany if "on aug 30 2006 your car has less than 109,000 miles on it" but in another part it states new trany when you have 109,000 or less at time of service. which one is it??

I too received one of these letters in the mail today. I have an 01' EX V6 Accord, pushing 101K miles. I'm actually going to mail in an objection.

If you read the rewards for the lawyers, they stand to make 9% of $90,300,000 dollars in addition to 290K.

While I like the idea of additional coverage if I have a problem, I do not like the idea of who knows who taking clost to 9 million dollars from Honda, for filing some stupid paperwork. Basically, our loss is these lawyers gain.

This is the kind of thing that ruins business in America. When I called Sony with ideas for products, they hang up scared of a future lawsuit. Same when I tried to give Apple ideas for their products. I've suggested product improvements to companies in China, and they have no issue and thank me for my suggestions. I have lawsuits to blame for this, and it hurts the competitiveness of American companies.

While I might not choose to buy a Honda next, I do not want a bunch of lawyers making millions off of me and perhaps driving up the cost of business.

I think that's a whole lot of BS.. If you complain to Honda of America, they'll throw in some kind of Goodwill warranty because they know there's a problem with their crappy trannies..

I own a 2000 Honda Accord SE and have already replaced the transmission. It was purchased in mid-2000 and the transmission replaced in 2003-2004 (which was covered under the warranty (except some labor), and had approximately 70,000 miles on it. It appears to be having another problem with the transmission now, however, the dearlership can't find anything wrong with it. It now has approximately 82,000 miles. I hope they do approved this proposal, extending the warranty and coverage.

Is this problem on V6's or the 4 bangers mostly? How many other people have had the transmission replaced under warranty only to have that one fail?

I got a letter this week too. (2001 V6) I replaced my tranny back on 04 when it had about 68xxx. I'm at 119xxx with my second and its slippin' a bit. I wonder if it covers the second tranny too.. cause its acting just like the first one...???

I've got a 99 with 133k and the tranny is starting to go bad. I checked my vin at the site above and it is not covered.

I heard its mostly with the accord V6's but it can still happen on the I4's too.

hey guys...

so im strolling through here just checking up on topics and i come across this one. i figured i'd put down my 0.02. so let me clear a couple things up for you...

most of the trannys that go bad are the odyssey's. i know of at least 10 to have been replaced in our shop in the past 3 weeks. there have been a couple newer 4 cyl. auto's going bad, but almost no v6's.

on the subject of getting a new transmission. as someone has already said, **** and moan enough, and you'll get one. if you believe your transmission is slipping, take it to a honda dealership. they will road test it. if they tell you nothing is wrong with it, take it to another honda dealership. if they tell you nothing is wrong with it, you're being paranoid...let your tranny be.

if a dealership tells you that your car needs a transmission, and it wont be covered under warantee, call honda. seriously. **** and moan, tell them which dealership you went to, then take your car back. i bet there will already be a transmission waiting for your car. i know our shipping time is less than 36 hours. but we operate near a shipping facility.

on the subject of the reman'd trannys...we have not had a SINGLE reman come back to us for repair. not to say it hasn't happened elsewhere, but for the number of transmissions we do, thats a pretty serious statement.

my car doesnt "slip" while driving, but it does however "slam" into reverse when it is started in the morning. No matter how long i let it warm up for, or how hard i press in the brak pedal, when it is bellow 60 degres outside, that sucker slams. Would this be covered? or even someting i should be concerned about?

I have the 01 accord v6 how would i know if the tranny need to be replaced...What if i bring it to the dealer and he says nothing wrong with it?

I own a 2001 Prelude. I bought it in 2003 with about 23,000 miles on it. In 2005 I had to have the transmission replaced at 45,000 miles. I couldn't believe it. The dealership called me up, said that my tranny had been recalled and that they would replace it free of charge thanks to my warranty. This year I kept feeling the car slip once in awhile. I'm driving on the highway pressing the gas to speed up and all of a sudden the car will jerk and really start moving after a loooong pause. First gear always gives trouble too. I took it right back and told them that it was acting the same way before I got the tranny replaced. Low and behold they found nothing wrong with it, but they wanted their $$$ for checking it (i didn't give it to them). Now I think I would have been better off checking it myself now that I got this letter in the mail.

yes that is one of the symptoms that we have replaced the automatic transmissions for...

like i was saying before, many people are being overly critical of their transmissions. if your car doesn't slam into gear, or seveerely slip. its fine.

as i told one of the other guys on here, call american honda and **** and moan. they will goodwill warantee the transmission.

Mines a 98 with 90K miles and American Honda denied coverage and local Coggin Honda refused good will. I have also purchased a new Prelude from them and serviced my Accord for all repairs except an oil change. Most notably when brought in for timing belt in October and ask them to check on the new jerkiness in the ride.
I had to replace 3 motor mounts $1600

Still jerky....it's the Tranny they say.
